Question:

I’m an author writing a humorous, informative book on American healthcare.  I’m working on a chapter entitled "100 Things You Need To Know", designed to give readers/healthcare consumers 10 pieces of useful (or funny) information in each of 10 categories:  doctors, nurses, hospitals, lawyers, insurance companies, medical bills, entrepreneurs, prescriptions, medical devices and the healthcare industry in general.  Would welcome your suggestions, contributions and anecdotes in any of these categories.  Any contributions used will be acknowledged in the book.  Thanks very much. Heh. An acquaintance of mine, facing serious open heart surgery, was asked by me how he felt about black humor. Since he’d been making bad jokes himself, and said he didn’t mind such humor, I pointed out he had nothing to worry about unless the surgeon showed up with a dish of melted butter, because they were gonna crack him like a lobster. The look was *prize*. Weeks of steeling up, serious "focus" development, etc., all shot to hell in seconds. Then I said "welcome to my life", mentioned I’d been facing this kind of thing since before I was 10, and bought him another beer…

This isn’t related to diabetes…. but when I was treated for thyroid cancer, and to a lesser extent when I have my checkup scans, I was a walking "dirty bomb". Thycans really do joke about "glowing in the dark". bj
