Hairless update and guilt at work

I put the new OS under the file WINXP instead of WINDOWS. After spending hours on the computer he immediately wanted to delete the WINXP folder when he saw it. This is part of my problem. He would have deleted Windows. Aha! Might have solved your problem with his behaviour if you’d let him delete Windows… you could have installed some obscure, unfriendly Linux distro instead!<eg — Vashti —
Well, he’s still pissed about that new folder, but I’d rather not spend my valuable time in court, thank you.

Welll… that could be pretty annoying but he might have less time to delete his OS!

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – A good hat is vital for the no hair thing. Yes, hats do become important. I actually spent some time looking into hat options over the last two years. There are plenty of great hats, but they are often expensive. The first inexpensive solution I tried was a straw weave, wide brimmed hat from K-Mart ($12). It didn’t look bad and the open weave allowed nice air flow (good for hot days). However, the open weave didn’t offer the best protection from direct sunlight and the hat was a bother to carry around when I wasn’t wearing it. Billed caps (baseball caps) are inexpensive and good at keeping the sun out of your eyes, but they offer little protection for most of the face, ears and neck. Currently, I only use billed caps on very cold days when I’ll be pulling a hood over them. My favorite solution so far is survival hats (like fishing hats). Only about $10 at the Army-Navy surplus store. All-round brim for good sun protection and even a chin strap for windy weather (if not windy, just let the strap dangle behind your head). They are also collapsible, so not much of a bother when not in use. Overall, very practical, which is why you see so many soldiers and scientists using them in the field. My local Army-Navy store sells them in both solid colors and camouflage patterns. Generally, light colors heat up less in the sun, so buy light to stay cool or dark to stay warm. Best Wishes, Arthur
I think some people call them "bucket" hats. On real sunny days when I go for a hike I wear one with a Martin Guitar logo stitched into it. Pretty much protects everything, but lately I’ve just been grabbing a handful of sunscreen and rubbing all over my head. The extra left on my hands goes all over my face and ears. However, living at a ski resort I can tell you it’s true you lose a lot of heat from your head. — The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm

I think my mother has a hat like that for the summer. What I meant though was a good winter hat: when I was shorn it was below freezing out and I didn’t even own a hat. Brain popsicle! — Vashti — The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm

Arthur, My dad wore a hat similar to that sometimes, at least it looked like that when he came in out of the rain. Remember when men wore hats?? like… most all men, especially men in suits. I say you start a fad. I like hats like that. They are classy. Sally — The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm

So flaunt your bad bald self, Arthur! If I thought I could get away with it, I’d go for the really short look.
Some time ago I got fed up with looking after long hair and got the lot cut off against my SO’s wishes… he thought it’d look awful but now he’s the first to say when I need to get it trimmed again. When cut it’s just a few cm at the longest. The only thing easier and nicer than this is the bald look but little old ladies give you nasty looks when you’ve got kids, are female and have no hair.<g A good hat is vital for the no hair thing. — Vashti — The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm

? I can relate to your husband completely. Watching my own hair start to thin sort of freaked me out for a while. As a last fling, I let my hair grow long for several years while I still could. My pony tail was at least a foot long. Eventually, however, I got tired of managing all that hair and it just felt too warm during the Summer. Also, I was doing more public speaking and image issues came into play. Once I went back to short hair, I slowly embraced shorter and shorter hair cuts. Now I just have a hint of hair that I trim down every few days. Feels great and low matenance. So, even though it wasn’t my first choice and Nature kind of pushed me into it, I slowly embraced baldness and was surprised how much I like it. Best Wishes, Arthur I know, I just tease him about it because I really do like the bald look. We’re not even sure he’ll go bald, but his hairline has receded slightly. Not enough that anyone who didn’t know him from before would notice, but pictures from back then reveal it. I’m thinking of so many bald, or mostly bald guys who look great: Bruce Willis, Patrick Stewart, Vin Diesel, Nick Cage (when he isn’t wearing ridiculous hairpieces), and the list goes on. It’s funny, but I honestly think they look better bald then they ever did with hair (if I ever saw them with hair).

Do you have to worry about your head getting sunburned now? I’ve thought about getting my head shaved.
The sunscreen is easier to apply when your head is completely shaved. Don’t you have any IT guys at work who can fix your computer problems (and maybe cause more ;^))? If you explain more about your cyber problems I’m sure there are people here who will be able to figure it out.
I’m the idependent IT guy here in town. I talked to some other techs and they are with me on this one — it would be a mess for anyone. I just try to make sure I’ve got plenty of backups. I finally did what’s called a parallel install of the OS and things are coming together nicely. Not completely finished, but should be able to sleep better tonight. So good I got a new Norelco razor so it will conform to the curves of my head. Cordless, too, so the wire will stay out of my face. I get the impression that most "girls" either like lots of hair or no hair. It’s that odd place in the middle where you are officially bald but still have that hair wreath around the sides they don’t like. And I did keep it very short, with no thoughts of doing combover. Heck, a lot of people are shaving their heads now, so may as well take advantage of it while it’s "in." I could play in a rock band with 20 year olds and nobody would know. On a serious note, I’m a bit over my head at work with some very serious computer problems I’m trying to solve. I know it’s not my fault, but I still absorb the guilt when something unexpected happens and my hands are on the computer. It’s a lot like borrowing someone’s car and while it’s parked it gets hit, and even though it’s not your fault you still feel guilty about it. Anyway, I think if it wasn’t for the meds I would have jumped out at window by now — or thrown the computer out the window. Thanks.
