Pain in the knees
Question:
Was your arthritis a complication or related in any way to your colostomy or your cancer? I also have a colostomy as a result from rectal cancer. — Marc from AK "Classic 42" <Janda99…@nospambtinternet.com> wrote in message

Although my colostomy was the result of cancer and not because of Crohns or any inflammatory bowel disease I developed osteoarthritis in both knees. Basically I wore them out. For some years I have taken Diclofenac Sodium as ‘Voltarol’ SR (Slow Release) I have not had any problems with this drug but maybe it is because I have all my small and a lot of my large intestine still intact. Just a thought though,. I know that Voltarol does not suit everybody. By the way I had my right knee replaced with a prosthesis 5th. Dec. What a relief, no more pain and the things I can do now are countless. What a pity that medical science cannot yet give us a prosthesis for the entire bowel, just think of it!!!!! I too had Crohn’s colitis and an ileostomy. I am on Celebrex for joint pain and have been for two years. It took a little while to work but it did and it does. "DavidRohn" <davidr…@aol.com> wrote in message

I have bad arthritis that is thought to be linked to inflammatory bowel disease (I had U.C.). I take Vioxx 25mg 1 a day as that is thought to be the best anti inflammatory for people with bowel conditions as most others including aspirin and ibroprufen are harse on the stomach. The best advise though is to remain as active as possible and try and keep your weight under control (my biggest problem) Mark "Martin" <mar…@videotron.ca> wrote in message

People who have Crohns Disease often also have arthritis. Furthermore, some medications used to treat Crohns Disease — especially Imuran — can cause joint problems. Ever since having an ileostomy, my joint problems have largely been eliminated. I would be very careful when taking any medications to treat joint problems or arthritis without the expressed approval of my gastroenterologist. Many medications, including Celebrex, can cause problems for people with intestinal problems or intestinal bleeding.

I would need your experience advices I’ve lived with Crohn Colitis for many years, I have now an ileostomy since two years now. But since the last few days, I have started to have some pain in both of my knees. And it is getting more and more painful as time goes. Might that be cause by our disease ? If so what can we do about it ? Also, I have started to take "Celebrex", but it does not seem to be very efficient ! I’m a little bit lost and don’t know what to do. Any suggestion would be appreciated ! Martin
