Bowel Cancer screening

Categories: Rectal Cancer

Question:

I am a  38 year old male who’s father has had  rectal and bowel cancer since 1994 aged 70 year, my paternal uncle also had carcinoma in  of the sigmoid colon with associated polyps and secondary of the liver at the age of 68 years. I would be grateful of your assistance in trying to find out what age I should be screened as there is much debate on the UK  on what age you should be screened. Many thanks for your assistance Jamie Roberts

Response:

My brother was just diagnosed with rectal cancer 1 month ago (age 54) and the doctor said siblings should be checked immediately. I am 42 and just went through the colonoscopy today. The stuff you have to drink is worse than the test. I agree, get tested since there is a family history. We had none. Denise
