The right direction?

Question:

I just got a call from my radiologist and my psa is down from .1 to 0.06. Next appointment in six months.  High fives to all.  Is this significant, or just a mild decrease that is not something to get excited about? psa 1/04/02 = 6.6 RRP:    3/11/03, psa .1, .1 EBERT 8/02 to 10/02 psa 2/7/03 = 0.06 Does anyone know how serious "vascular invasion" is?  That was in my post RRP pathology report along with the fact that the left seminal vesicle had cancer in it.

At this point, I’d say that vascular invasion and seminal vesicle means nothing.  They are why you needed EBRT.  Your .1, .1, .06 is hopefully the result of EBRT. I don’t think .06 is much better than .1.  But it’s a hell of a lot better then .14 at this point in your treatment.  .1 is where you want to be. Here’s high fives back atcha. — Steve Kramer PSA 16 10/17/2000 Dx 11/01/2000 G7, T2c RP 12/15/2000 PSA  .1  .1  .1  .27  .37  .75 Radiation MAY – JUL 2002 PSA  .34  .22  .15 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Response:

Ok, I’m not a doctor so the exact time lines, etc. I don’t have at my finger After some external beam radiation the PSA tends to go up. Since you have already had the prostate removed I have no idea how much of a rise you would see.  Which obviously would be very different from my husband’s PSA IF they had taken it 3 months after his radiation. But what you should see is a downward slide over the next 2 years and then it should stabilize someplace. Your cancer had escaped and hopefully all of it was in the prostate bed and has been zapped. The fact that your doctor scheduled your next appointment for 6 months and not 3 should give you an indication that the doctor was pleased with your results. You might stabilize right at .06 or maybe drop to .01 I don’t know. Just remember it is under the point zero mark. So celebrate!!! I’ll try to check on what Vascular invasion means. If I don’t get back to you right away remind me. Because in two weeks I’ll be wondering who it was that asked about it and you don’t have a real addy out here! Bev
