Whats going on?
Question:
Hi Laura… Please don’t give up on us yet! There really are some very supportive and wonderful people on this newsgroup. We just have had a new "troll" come in the past week or so and wreak havoc. It will calm down like it always does. In the meantime, try to ignore him and tell us a little bit about why you’re here. =) Shana shaynuh…@aol.com

Hi all, Steven, your response should be required reading for everyone new to ngs. Great post!! Matthew Steven wrote:
Laura, I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but it’s not just this NG; it looks like the whole Internet is infected with this disease of intolerance, rudeness, insensitivity and nastiness. I was surfing the alt.support.cancer newsgroup at one time. This poor woman posted that her husband was dying of lung cancer, and she was very frightened and looking for help. What she got was a reply along the lines of, "Hey dummy, why didn’t you ever stop your husband from smoking?" And some of the politics newsgroups are even worse–the insults routinely traded back and forth there are downright pornographic. Occasionally I have pleaded with the offenders to act more civil; but it never works. They boost their egos by character assassination of others. And so forth. There are just a lot of very insensitive people out there these days. All I can suggest is try to either ignore them, or use the filters on your browser to remove them. But don’t let them get to you. And *never*, *never* reply in kind; that just perpetuates the nastiness. Keep in touch with the caring, decent people on the Internet; hopefully they are still the majority. — Steven D. Litvintchouk

I’m new to this ng. Just today. I am really shocked to see so many hateful, childish, unhelpful posts in here. Isn’t this a group to help eachother? It’s too bad a person can’t come in here and get some serious and thoughful help. Laura
Response:
you should manipulate this newsgroup to work for you. if you don’t like what someone has to say then i’d suggest looking the other way. what would you do on the street if someone approached you and started preaching to you about god’s word and you were not religious/did not want to hear it? i hope you’d walk away from the jesus creeper and continue with your own life rather than listening to his ramblings and becoming increasingly frustrated. what do you do when you don’t like what you are viewing on telivision? i hope you turn it off or change the channel rather than become increasingly annoyed with the program. same thing here. can’t handle it, fly away and don’t flutter around here again.
