Need info on lung cancer ICE regimen

Categories: Lung Cancer

Question:

My mother was recently diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung.  The surrounding lymph nodes and those around the liver have shown some cancerous cells as well. She was originally on a chemo regimen consisting of Taxol and carboplatinum.  She has now been put on a very aggressive regimen called the "ICE" regimen with Ifex and Ifosfamide being the key drugs.  Does anyone have any experiece in taking this regimen?  If so, what were the side effects?  How effective was the therapy? She has also been taking Sun Chlorella and shark cartilage to keep her white cell count up.  Any other ideas? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kim

my message is attached below Thank you – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My father has received ICE which consists of Ifosphomide, Carboplatin, and Etoposide.  These are very strong drugs which cause a lot of side effects. Hearing could be effected and so is the state of mind.  Extreme nausea and possibility of heart damage.  Is very strong on the bone marrow, my father’s WBC count went down to 0.5.   However, this is a very strong chemo and does a lot of damage to cancer cells, that is probably why your mother’s doctor advised her to undergo this chemotherapy.  For nausea, I advise (although I am not a doctor) to take compazine, it helps some people, and it made my father very sleepy.  After ICE his fever went up, and lymph nodes did not show a significant decrease in size, therefor this chemo was stated "none effective" and my father is now on prednizone to reduce the lymph nodes and stop any associated pain.  For about a week now, he has become non-responsive to this steroid and is now waiting for doctor’s next step. I really hope that ICE helps your mother, it helped many people from what I know, it was just unfortunate that my father was an acception.  Good luck with the treatment and I hope that these answers were enough for you, and please let us all know how your mother is doing. With all the best to you, your mother, and everyone in the newsgroup Marianna Strakhan My mother was recently diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung.  The surrounding lymph nodes and those around the liver have shown some cancerous cells as well.
