Categories: Lung Cancer

Question:

As I understand it, lung cancer is often caused by metastasized (?) cells that have split off from the primary cancer (in the liver, for example), enter the bloodstream and sooner or later enter the lungs. All blood goes through the lungs.

Actually, I believe that in order to be called _lung_ cancer, the disease must have originated in the lung.  The same goes for liver, kidney, etc. If a cancer recurs somewhere else in the body, it is still called by the original site name.  For example, I had lung cancer.  If it were to recur (God forbid) in my liver or bones or brain, it would still be lung cancer, perhaps with the added descriptive _metastasized to the <organ_. Hope I’m straight on this; if not, someone please correct me! Alice Whitfield  sSSSS SSs     Yes, you’re right! sSs    sS                                           Alice Whitfield

JWThere are no doubt mediocre doctors and hospitals….the proper medic JWservices and diagnosis are important. JWI consider your remarks much too broad and all-encompassing. I agree with you totally.  There are good and bad doctors, and excellent and mediocre hospitals.  Besides your doctors and hospital, the cancer patient himself/herself has a lot to do with surviving or not surviving. I am a seven-year survivor of colon cancer. John, I also live in Tampa and in the general area of Lutz.  I am a volunteer for the local unit of the American Cancer Society.  If I can ever be of assistance to you or your family, please give me a call.
