Question:

I think you must have got me muddled up with someone else. While its nice to be recognised on RST for anything… I don’t think I deserve it and to the best of my memory I’ve never been here with any other identity much less trolling.  ++Mark.

Actually, you haven’t been trolling here in this incarnation, but on the basis of the sarcastic troll-guidance you posted, I think you have a slight edge on bthomas. Mark M PS  I was wondering whether I should learn to swim…?

Response:

Here are a couple I can add after my first tri for this season: Some kids do belong in triathlons (13yr old made 18th overall) Put in a faster swim time (30 sec or so) to seed you for a pool swim Don’t put in a slower swim time, you will get stuck Pool swims suck!

I love the rule about Mexican food the night before a race.  Same goes with Sushi, 2 nights before.  I flew into NYC to do last years Marathon on Friday eve and the nearest place to eat to my hotel in mid-town was a sushi bar.  Being hungry (and clueless) I chowed down. On Sunday at mile 23, just entering the park, doubled over in lower GI spasms, I pulled into the blessed green plastic shack for 10 minutes before limping in the last 3 miles.  Needless to say I won’t be eating raw fish any time soon.

It’s not the raw fish (sashimi) that did you in.  It’s all the rice.  Fiber bad. I saw a guy in the 24th mile of a marathon who, being all out of pasta had decided to carbo-load on oatmeal. His face was greener than the grass alongside the trail.  Me, I felt fine at the time, having had a Domino’s large double sausage, double cheese, THIN CRUST for dinner the night before. I’ll eat anything but fiber or Olestra before a race; nothing bothers my system, but I want to run without ballast.

My last pair of tires for bike, $80, not installed.  Car tires installed and balanced $61. Some roadies are cool Most roadies are not cool

I find that people who ride a bike regularly(roadies, tri-geeks, MTBers, commuters) are all generally cooler people than the general population. WTC has a monopoly on Ironman racing

"Ironman"  yes, the distance no.  Great Floridian is a great IM distance race I’m sure there are others. 86-degree pool water sucks (thanks to the old people for that one)

and wussies like myself, I like it warm.  Takes me 10 minutes to get into that damn 79 degree water. Lance is the greatest athlete of my generation

Damn straight! Dick Hoyt ties Lance

He is quite an athlete, had the pleasure of racing him several times a way back. Lance was a triathlete first

Can’t wait to see him win another TDF. I haven’t seen a Sunday football game in 2 years

I tape them, and/or get up really early before the game.  Haven’t missed a Ram game in 3 years, though I woudn’t have minded missing that last one. Cars are the most dangerous things in the world when you are on a bike

My point is that they are nowhere close to equal thirds of the equation. I concede that one must have SOME strength and SOME endurance. My point is that a swimmer with 90% perfect technique, 50% of whatever "perfect strength" is, and 50% of "perfect endurance" will actually be a better swimmer than one who is 50/90/90. Swimming is about technique. Strength and endurance don’t beat technique.

I disagree, if you want to swim fast. 3 legged stool philosophy. I have seen people do TI until they were blue in the face, but never really swim workouts on a steady basis, and never develope strength and endurance. Yes they improved their IM time from 2:00 to 1:50, but without strength and endurance, they never get any faster. All htree are needed, IMO. I watched the biathlon in the Winter Olympics, but didn’t see no guy named Lance? I didn’t see no cyclists either. Tim

They have to go together. Great technique will not overcome no endurance and no strength, for other than sprints. Lance is the greatest athlete of my generation Lance who. Lance Armstrong, the only roadie who can swim!

Interesting, I have exactly the opposite experience. in a 25 or 50 yard sprint, I have seen stronger swimmers beat those with better technique. Endurance is not a factor at these distances. Yes, but in that order. A pound of technique makes up for a truckload of strength and endurance, and even a truckload of strength and endurance won’t make up for bad technique. A good swim coach is worth twice what you pay them. If he really knows what he is doing.

That’s what he said, "a good swim coach", which would necessarily imply a coach who knows what he’s doing. A bad swim coach is more dangerous than figuring it out on your own, and figuring out on your own will take a good swim coach  years to fix. Lance is the greatest athlete of my generation Lance who.

Lance Armstrong, the only roadie who can swim! Dick Hoyt ties Lance Hoyt has the biggest heart, IMHO. Only good human interest story ever on IMH show.

Are they still racing? Haven’t heard much lately. And I agree about the IMH human interest story.

No. Time is the currency for speed. Time on the bike. Swimming is all about mechanics

If he really knows what he is doing. Don’t make fun of people for being slow, you were there once, or are 1 injury away from being there Don’t laugh at overweight people out jogging; at least they are out there

Don’t make fun of anybody who gets out and tries. 86-degree pool water sucks (thanks to the old people for that one)

Yeah but if you can turn out good wokout times in an 86 degree pool, you will fly in a cool lake/ocean. Lance is the greatest athlete of my generation

Hoyt has the biggest heart, IMHO. Only good human interest story ever on IMH show. Tim
