Categories: Leukemia

Question:

John – Just a reminder (you’ve prob thought of this allready).. I’d keep them apart till you get him to the vet… in case he has Feline Leukemia.. it’s be awful if Maya caught it from a hisspit or something :( . Stacey

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I took care of the cat chores for him (I have automated all of Maya’s needs) and left for work, all was well with him.  When I came home I visited him and he really wanted out of that room.  I could not blame him.  I let Maya out and closed the patio door locking her out and let him run around the condo.  He loves Maya’s drinking fountain.  Maya was watching through the door.  She did not seem real agitated about him being in there.  I fixed some dinner in the microwave while eating he discovered Maya’s cat tree and he occupied it.  Maya was on the back of my papasan chair on the patio. They were pretty close to each other seperated by the glass door.  Neither seemed unduly agitatied.  I cracked the door so there was a space but they could not get through and watched for a few minutes.  I decided to take a risk since this was going better than expected and opened the door ready to leap between them.  I did not have to.  I let him out for about 90 minutes carefully monitoring the situation.  Maya hissed a few times and puffed up a couple of times but never at the same time.  It was a real success.  They never attacked each other and other than a few times where a sharply said "Maya" was enough there were no incidents of violence or threatened violence.  It was a real success.  I locked him back in his room.  I will get him to the vet in the next few days and let him out for longer periods as they get used to each other.  This weekend I will be home and hopefully he can be out the whole time.  This is going weeks ahead of schedule. Needless to say, I am really happy about this.

Cool! Sounds very good. If you keep this level for now, when you are home it will really be a boon! I can tell you are very happy about it:) Karen

I decided to name him Marco.  They are both outside, so far so good.
