Sherry, how long has it been since you had a "real" period? Have you discussed it with your doctor? Odds are that it’s nothing to be concerned about, but your post caught my eye because I experienced a pale pink discharge – hard to even call spotting – shortly after I had stopped having periods. It turned out that I had endometrial cancer. I don’t want to be an alarmist, but if you haven’t discussed it with your doctor, I recommend that you do so. Welcome to asm! I do hope that it’s nothing! FurPaw — "In a sense, we are hallucinating all the time.
Hi, Sherry. This could be a normal thing – posters in the past have mentioned such a fluid coming at the end of the period. Have it checked out, of course, but in the meantime, don’t fret too much over it. Chakolate — One of the lessons of history is that nothing is often a good thing to do and always a clever thing to say. –Will Durant

those exams can be difficult to perform if you’re very tense, because your vaginal muscles tighten just like your other muscles do. it’s not something to worry about. if there’s a serious problem, it will show up on the tests. the ultrasound is easy and painless, since they usually do it from the outside. maybe in the future you’d do better with a female ob/gyn? call a women’s center or a battered woman help-line or whatever resource you have locally. they usually have lists of doctors who are good with trauma victims, etc, and are more soothing than clinical and are willing to take the time to put you at ease before the exam. btw, i have a friend who takes ativan before ob/gyn exams. if you’re seeing a pdoc, maybe you could ask for a sedative to take before appointments. -lisa

Ultrasounds do not hurt and if you have endometrial or cervical cancer it will be seen. If it is necessary {if anything is seen}, a biopsy will be done. This means taking a little snip of what they see and is not a fun experience but you have a good reason for yelling and you DO get good drugs afterwards {in my experience and that of my sister}. Then you will get to wait for the results which is always a worrying time. Please let us know what happens.
Probably not really, but if you’re a T2, all that excess circulating insulin can cause menstrual problems. It’s either feast or famine with me. If I don’t take progesterone regularly (like 10 days out of every month), I don’t have a period and the lining builds too much… It’s so variable from woman to woman that it’s hard to say if DM "causes" it. As a point of information, I learned from both my internist and gynecologist that women with diabetes have an increased risk of developing endometrial cancer. As best as I can determine as a non-medical person, it isn’t certain whether the increased risk is from the diabetes or from the obesity that accompanies Type 2 in many people. In any event, women (diabetic and non-) who notice an unexplained change in their menstrual cycle/flow are advised to visit their gyne. I hope it’s just a fluke and that everything with you is just fine. And I hope your day gets better! Regards — Elissa Type 2

MY DARN . got it??? for you men sorry but i will say anyway…i got my friend again <pooh after 2 years of not having it. the question is…..WHY WHY WHY after all this time. and not to be too gross but my body seems to making up for lost time AGGGHHHHHHHH. I thought the tamoxifen was supposed to stop this from happening. any thoughts????? hugs and love linda bliss p.s.
Response:

You might want to check it out with your oncologist, especially since you seem to think it’s heavy –after 2 years?…Hmmm…Might also depend on what meds you’re on (if any). If on Tamoxifen, should be reported. Either way, when it doubt, check it out. Good luck and God bless, Adrienne

Response:

Hi Linda, No joy this! You might be stressed out , though have it checked out especially being on Tamoxifen. It can cause endometrial cancer but DO NOT WORRY, because that can easily be rectified. You may need a hysteroscopy to check that. I had that done when I noticed some bleeding. They whipped me in quickly, gave me a full anaesthetic and it turned out my endometrial wall was nice and thin as it should be, but I had some fibroids which had caused some bleeding. You could also have a polyp. They bleed very easily. Just check it out, especially as it has ben heavy. Love and hugs, Rob

Response:

rob thanks i never thought of that. when this "friend"decides to leave i will call the gyn to have my annual pap which i am due for anyway your ng friend linda

Response:

Hi Linda, I also had some bleeding when I wasn’t supposed to. My gyn. did a hysteroscopy and things looked fine, so he was at a bit of a loss until some lab work came back and indicated that my thyroid was REALLY out of kilter. Synthetic thyroid medication did the trick! Now, I’m not suggesting that yours is a thyroid problem–just that so many things can cause the bleeding. I felt better when I had asked a Dr. to check it out. Good luck to you. Hope the arm is continuing to improve too. Barb

Mostly because I have just had to focus on my husband and me and our life, and try NOT to think about all the crappy PCOS stuff going on with us (I’m sure you all know all the usual details that many of us experience … some may remember my posts from about 2 yrs ago)… anyway, I was referred to a gyn. about last June by a co-worker, and my LONG awaited first visit is less than a week away (six months for a nu pt visit!!) Anyway, I’m extremely anxious about this visit – for many reasons. I want to make sure to ask all the right questions, and remember all the tests/meds that are available to help with determining for sure if you have IR and helping to treat it and all the ‘lovely’ fertility issues that go along with PCOS and IR… I have to run off to get ready for work, but I did want to take a moment and ask for all your suggestions and ideas… I’m sorely in need for them… Thanks a ton in advance… I am finally feeling like I can safely get back into visiting/sharing with my fav. NGs again… I’m glad I didn’t delete this NG program *grin* so now I just have to read them all and start responding again… Ta for now Christi & Joey

Hi Christi, Hope you have luck with your new gyn but also keep in mind that *most* are not very well versed in PCOS treatments and many want to treat you with BCP’s. Have you considered making an appt. with an endo or RE? — Shannon First-time Mommy to Evan 07/27/00 PCOS diagnosed 1989 Rezulin / Clomid Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

Hi Shannon, I actually would love to go to an RE or Endo, but I have yet to find one that will see me without a referral… gotta love living in small town America – not only do the sidewalks roll up at night, but nobody can do anything without someone else telling them to do it first… Maybe I’ll try another round of calling and see if anyone new is in town since I tried last… thanks for the suggestion – maybe it’ll work Ta for now, Christi

Header to anyone who doesn’t want to read this: TTC and M/C mentioned… Shannon, one other note (that is highly appreciated!) I already did the bcp thing before I was married… and while I think it (along with massive amounts of acupuncture) helped me out in the long run, I have been married and TTC for 2 years. During that time, I have had 2 m/c, both by 71/2 weeks and the last one in 10/99, with no luck getting pg since then… I’m really hoping that metformin or avandia will help… I only think I’ll go so far as taking clomid in the long run… but then again – who knows for sure, right? Can anyone tell me the type of blood test that helps determine IR? Last time it was checked (with an A1C hemoglobin) I wasn’t diabetic… who knows now – three years later… Anyway, that’s about it for now – just got home from work and want to go watch taped shows with my darlin J!
If I couldn’t get any of the anti-diabetic drugs, I would go for the low dose BCP. The recent evidence I have from some of the ob/gyn ‘Bibles’ do not show any kind of major increases in insulin resistance, etc. from BCP. I know that there has been bad raps given to BCP, but I would rather have BCP and regular periods then endometrial cancer. Also, I would check out any doctor I went too: endo or not. I’ve known a few endo’s who won’t treat PCO (considering it a gyn thing) or they won’t do anti-diabetic drugs. I would check out the doctor first and see if they already proscribe ISA’s and if not, if they would be open to medical articles concerning it. I know I’m a newish patient, but I’ve called at least once a week for the past month with questions about this stuff, and she can’t seem to remember any details.
THe practice is a pretty busy one. (When I initially called for an appointment, I was told that only 3 of the 8 or so docs there were taking new patients, and when it would have been 3 weeks before I could get in to see a doctor, I opted to try the nurse practitioner. I’ve seen NPs for other things, and have no problem with the idea of seeing one rather than a doctor … she just doesn’t seem to be quite with it. She also takes forever to return my calls. At my first visit (well, my only visit. Since then we’ve only had phone consultations) we talked about the possibility of doing a biopsy, but she felt (and I agreed at the time) to try to control the bleeding with hormones first. It made sense then. But since the hormones obviously aren’t doing the trick, it does seem like it’s time to check for other possibilities, and try other options. She will be doing my biopsy next week. But I think if I’m going to end up seeing these folks for any legnth of time, I’m going to see about getting switched to one of the doctors.
My hair started being wavy and then frizzy and lightly curled about 6 months after the end of chemo. I was getting used to it and enjoying it. Had my hair cut differently. Now, at 13 months, the curl is all gone.
I had very straight hair all my life, and after chemo it grew in wavy, but now, 10 months later, it seems to be growing in straight again. I did enjoy those waves though! Also dyed it red again just for good cheery measure! Anne

My hair started being wavy and then frizzy and lightly curled about 6 months after the end of chemo. I was getting used to it and enjoying it. Had my hair cut differently. Now, at 13 months, the curl is all gone. I thought if your hair went curly, it stayed curly? Hi Dee, I have naturally curly hair. It was down to my *behind* when it all fell out ( Adriamycin), Oct. 97. I finished chemo March 98, and was able to stop wearing wig July 98 (with very short hair). At that time it was straight and at least 50% gray. Now, it is curly again and I only have the little bit of gray I had before the chemo. So I guess, after freaking out from chemo, hair can return to it’s normal state. The crazy part is I have always wanted straight hair. Hope this helps. God Bless and all the luck in the world. ~Pam~

Response:

I thought if your hair went curly, it stayed curly?

God, I hope not. My hair was black and wavy. After Cytoxan and Adriamycin, it grew back khaki-colored and kinky. I hated it. When I started Taxotere a couple of months ago, I thought, "good, maybe it’ll fall out this time and grow back the way it’s *supposed* to." "Ha," said God. I buzzed my hair when it felt like it was going to fall out, but it didn’t fall out. It’s still khaki-colored, and the crew cut is getting long enough that I can see the curl in it. Damn, damn, damn. — Aloha, Catharine Eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. –Isaiah 55:2

Response:

Most of the people I’ve talked to said their hair eventually went back to normal. My wife Deborah used to have straight hair but it’s wavy now and has changed color a bit – she has a little more gray in it but I certainly wouldn’t tell her :) Her natural color is dark brown but the first hair that grew back was kind of a mouse brown color and then it changed again to the salt and pepper she has now. Deborah is 46 and her hair’s been growing back for about six months.

After I had surgery for a brain tumour, involving my head being shaved, I was surprised to find the new wavy-as-before growth coming as dark grey, when it had previously been a rich warm brown. Mary p.s. as the locks fell to the floor my only regret was the

Mel – I want to strongly encourage you to call your doctor. It could be just breakthrough bleeding, or it could be much more serious. Any abnormal bleeding should be checked asap if you are on HRT. I don’t want to frighten you, just get you to call your doctor… my breakthrough bleeding turned out to be caused by endometrial cancer. For most folks, it’s less serious, but get it checked!
Good news! A pap would show cancer. Now you should get back on track of having periods, at least 4 times per year. I also ran a long time (a couple of years) without periods, but every pap was ok. You know that something isn’t right, if you start to spot and it doesn’t stop. Not every woman without a period gets cancer, the risk is higher and you have an incresed possibility. The lining does not grow in the same rate in every woman. Mine didn’t grow in 4 years without a cycle. My doctor told me that mine was like I just had a period 2 weeks ago. — Katharina dav…@german-usa.com 35/5.9/C0-nt/met2550 262(March 15,99)/218

I was scared too by it Susan, only because I found my situation identical to Kerri and her situation. There was a posting on here that I started and alot of ladies responded maybe it could help you with your questions. My Gyno called and wanted to make an appointment with me for me to get a biopsy in March, so we will see what happens. She read the article also and she really thought it was helpful (as I did also). Look up my posting WD scared me.
I can give you some first hand information. I work in the medical field and now have cancer. Many of my experiences as a patient seem designed to CREATE anxiety in what already is an anxiety-provoking situation. For example, registering for an interdisciplinary clinic and noting that it says on the bottom of the registration form (obviously designed by an information specialist rather than a compassionate caregiver) "recurrence #1, date", "recurrence #2, date"

There are several books in print on illness and mindsets. The fields of biofeedback are rich in the subject matter. As is dysfunctional psychology and family systems theory. Once you understand the nature of the dysfunctional psychology and see how malignant and deep it is in society – you will understand how the Beast – 666 goes to the Armageddon. The Kahuna calls it the illness that kills itself. Incidently there is a rich posting of information available under my name in a deja vu news search. If that is an interest to you. sumbuddie 2 luv – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, I’m looking for informations about the relation between cancer and anxiety for my research.
