Stage II or III Colon Cancer
Question:
Roy, I’m in my 5TH month of receiving 5Fu with one month to go. I used the ice for the first two treatments, but I developed a strong dislike for the ice so I did nothing after that with no mouthsores. Incidentally, some oncologists believe the ice doesn’t do much anyhow. I receive treatment 5 days in a row then 3 weeks off. Any diarrhea I experienced came in the first week following chemo. It was mild lasting only a few days. It helps to eat foods high in alkalines, such as ripe bananas. You’ll feel more tired than usual but it goes away in a week or so. mild nausea is common but your doctor can prescribe antinausea pills. The worst problem is the change in the taste of food. Everything tastes like metal especially water. I forced myself to eat and drink during these periods. The last 2 weeks before my next treatment I have no sideeffects at all. The side effect in general are mild. Good luck I know you’ll be just fine Tom – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – As I’m waiting for my team of doctors to coordinate my initial treatment plan of radiation and low dose chemo (5FU) I would appreciate hearing from others who have gone through this. I’m advised to expect diarrhea and mouth ulcers. Drink plenty of sports drinks & soup broth to deter dehydration & suck on ice for an hour after treatment to prevent ulcers in mouth… any other tips? Thanking y’all so much in advance for any help. Pati
