Hi Carl, Here’s some information I have about financial assistance: If you are looking for financial assistance for medicines you might try any of the pharmaceutical companies which are listed on my financial assistance reading and resource page on my site, Cancer Survivors On Line, at http://www.ahamade.com/cancersurvivors/ If there is a particular protocol or drug that you and your doctors are looking for you might try the individual manufacturer, otherwise you might contact: Needymeds online at http://www.needymeds.com This is a website run by volunteers including an M.D. and a social worker offering information regarding financial assistance for pharmaceuticals. Information includes a listing by drug name as well as company name. Champus at Oncolink online at http://www.oncolink.com which provides, among many other things, information on general financial issues. I believe the State of California has a MediCal program which can provide supplemental financial assistance to qualified persons. If you are looking for general assistance there are several places you might want to try: Your County Department of Social Services should be able to direct you to those agencies which can provide general assistance. Check with your primary care physician about a referral to a social worker who specializes in financial matters. They are usually incredibly well connected with all of the assistance agencies and may be able to help you with paperwork, etc. Call your local chapter of the American Cancer Society and see if they can give you some referrals. If you can’t find the telephone number for your local chapter call 1-800-ACS-2345. And, certainly contact all your local and state officials regarding welfare and general assistance programs. I hope some of this is helpful to you. Cheers, Judy — Webmaster: Cancer Survivors On Line http://www.ahamade.com/cancersurvivors/ Site disclaimer applies to this message. Every tear is a stitch in the broken heart – and every sob is the sound of the breaks coming together. When the time is right for you to cry – it will come out …… trust your process sweet gentle lady. And when you cry those tears of grief – hug your self and your pain like you would hug the love of your life. With my very warmest regards…. SumBuddie 2 Luv
I just arrived home and am sitting here heartbroken. My best friend’s daughter called me early this morning from a neighboring town. She was in the hospital and not expected to make it through the day. I rushed to the hospital and got there just before she slipped away and then spent the day with her husband and daughters. She had been receiving treatments for lymphoma and seemed to be doing pretty well. Her blood counts were really down and she got a massive infection and it just went so quickly. I’m still in shock. My best friend, Sharon Pede, was a wonderful, caring, loving person and I will always remember her.
