Question:

Charles Schulz was diagnosed with colon cancer. If diagnosed early, it is very treatable. Otherwise, it spreads very quickly and consumes other organs. Once I heard that he had colon cancer and that would force him to stop drawing, I felt the end was not far away. He didn’t just give up.

Is this just one more extraordinary element to an already extraordinary man’s life, or are there other theories out there? -jeff One article I read stated that he had become very depressed at having to retire and seemed to loose his purpose for living. It’s not an uncommon occurrence among older couples – when one passes away, the other soon does, even though healthy. It’s like they just decide that it’s not worth going on alone. Perhaps the same element was at work here. But the man left a legacy that will endure for many, many years and probably will carry through several more generations of readers. Response:

I agree. The world definitely is worse-off for his leaving. Thanks, Charles. You’ll never realize what you’ve given some of us.     Me too.  Charles Schulz seemed like a fine man.                                                 Jean S.

Response:

I wonder why Schultz didn’t make any of his characters a runner.  I hardly consider baseball/softball players as runners and I know more baseball players that smoke than runners. BTW  I didn’t see ONE smoker at the groundhog run, I smelt one or two but I never saw them. Thanks,         Roger

Response:

Agree wholeheartedly (downheartedly, too).  It won’t be Spring without Peanuts characters suiting up for baseball on the comics page. — Josh Steinberg, Syracuse – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Though it has nothing to do with running, I think the world has lost a light with the passing of Charles Schulz :-( I’m going to miss Woodstock & Snoopy Tom   "PEANUTS fan"

Response:

I hope Charles Schulz kicked the football over the goal.  His efforts to make the world a better place will be missed.  Roy
