Yes, he was 96. He had retired for just one year when he passed on. He left a legacy in our family. He last years in medicine were spent with new doctors, who had just graduated from medical school. He devoted much of his time, in his words, "trying to keep them from taking life so damned seriously." Donn

Hi Shell! << I would think a cure would pull in some big bucks but one cure vs treatment with many drugs etc is probably better for the bottom line. >> True, but doctors and researchers aren’t thinking about the bottom line.  The people who come up with a cure will get the Nobel prize and all kinds of recognition.  They’ll live forever in medical history. I don’t think the bean counters at the drug companies would be able to shut them up. Sylvia

It’s time to play…..Is This a Clue! Denise’s maternal grandmother had measles while pregnant with Denise’s mother.  Does this factor in?  I don’t think so, but feel obligated to run it by. John the houseboy

Gosh, I wonder how many people would know stuff like this about their grandmothers?  I had german measles while in my first trimester with my second child, and she has a (fortunately slight) hearing defect because of it.  I don’t know about any link with MS.   Carmel John van Veen wrote: > It’s time to play…..Is This a Clue! > Denise’s maternal grandmother had measles while pregnant with Denise’s > mother.  Does this factor in?  I don’t think so, but feel obligated to > run it by. > John the houseboy

Hi John, Don’t know if it’s a clue but I know you have been on this board for over a decade and I salute your tenacity.  Do keep thinkin’ thoughts, John, I do wish one of us could solve this puzzle. A guy once told me there is a cure for cancer but it would cost too much, too many jobs lost, etc. I would think a cure would pull in some big bucks but one cure vs treatment with many drugs etc is probably better for the bottom line.  I hope it’s not true, that there really is a cure for some of these nasty diseases and because it wouldn’t be as profitable as lingering sick folks  it is kept secret, but who knows… Think of all the terrible things the government has done over the years the American Indians, the penicillin trials, the radiation on the mentally challenged, rounding up the American Japanese.  Perhaps, we’ll receive an official apology someday. Fortunately, I grew up around medical people. My grandfather doctored for 70 years, my grandmother was a nurse and owned a small psychiatric hospital. But as one humored old man said after being asked if he thought he’d inherited anything from his father, he replied, "Not sure about that, sonny, but I’ll bet that real old man across the street might have a say."
