update John Preston
Question:
Well things are a changing, the stage one clinical trial (IV antibody) that John started a couple of months ago has been abandoned, this is due to a rising PSA and disease progression. After 2 cycles of treatment Johns PSA is now 295 so it obviously was not working. We have an appointment at Royal Marsden to discuss another trial, it is a phase 2 chemotherapy trial we will know more details next week. John has been getting a lot of discomfort and the hospice Macmillan nurse has sorted out a pain management plan, which includes oramorf should John need it. John will also get spot radiation on a mass on his jaw that is causing him problems. well apart from that we are ok and going onward into the fog. Best wishes to all. Love Carolyn Preston xx

I am damned sorry to hear this, Carolyn. As best as I can tell, John and I are very nearly the same age and I shudder to think what it would be like to be at this stage already. I loved the photos. We are so used to seeing each other as just bits of text on the newsgroup that its great to see the real images of human beings behind the text. Two sets of clinical trials that have intrigued me are those for phenoxodiol and for the cancer vaccines. Like everything else, these are highly experimental and may very well not pan out, but the early testing showed some promise. I don’t know if either is being tested across the pond. A lot of the original work on both of these was actually in Australia. The "vaccines" are not for prevention like most vaccines, but for treatment. The idea is to sensitize the patient’s own immune system to something in the tumor cells and thereby get the immune system to attack them. I wish you, John, and the rest of your family the very best. Alan

Hi Carolyn and John, we have been wondering how it has been going. Kkeep up the good fight and keep enjoying each other. It’s great that he has so many opportunities for clinical trials in which to participate. Curt and I seem to have most of our differences worked out. His acceptance of his brain mets has been crucial in this process. His PSA is now in the 1100’s but he’s still hanging in there. having him back home has been very good for his health as I can help him remember things he forgets ( like meds ) take care both of you and I appreciate the pictures. Lori and Curt Miller

Dear Lori, I was wondering how you and Curt were doing so I looked you up. I know you went through quite a rough patch with him and am relieved to see that things are a bit smoother for you two now. All I can do is offer my best wishes for you and he that you have the strength to bear up for each other through the days to come. My email is good. Take care, Carmen from ASDLC
