Bob,      I am going to suggest that you have a look at a web-site and support group for esophageal (that’s how we spell it on this side of the ‘pond’) cancer (http://www.tznet.com/wolfgram/ec/cafe). You will need to have a look at the searchable archives of the ACOR discussion group and joining the group (instructions are on this web-site, group has about 950 members) would be a very useful thing to do in order for you to best be able to help your friend. This is a very tough disease to fight and you (and he) will need all the help you can get!      Thre are also many web-sites which can be found via your favourite search engine (I use www.google.com), some operated by the various government-run cancer agencies (especially in North America) and some run by the hospitals that treat this difficult disease. Hope this helps and best wishes to you and your friend Hans – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Please help. There is a company that enables people needing serious yet schedulable surgery or other medical procedures to select health care providers based on quality, services and price. It is found at www.patientwise.net.

Anyone with any information on Baretts cancer. Many Thanks

Barrett’s isn’t cancer, it’s simply metaplasia of the lining of the lower oesophagus from squamous mucosa to glandular (gastric) mucosa. It isn’t malignant, though people with Barrett’s do have a slightly higher incidence of cancer of the lower oesophagus. It’s one of the diseases of which the fear is worse than the reality

Do you mean Barrett’s Esophagus? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Barrett%27s+Es… Jerry

Response:

Howard,    Barrett’s esophagus (or oesophagus, as you say in Britain) is not actually cancer – it is a pre-cancerous condition which, in about 5-7% of individuals, goes on to become cancer. Having said that, there is a ‘discussion group’ dealing with the subjects of Barrett’s, GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) and reflux available by sending a ‘blank’    If you are actually enquiring about cancer of the esophagus, there is an excellent site at http://www.eccafe.org, where you will also have the opportunity to join a ‘listserv’ (email mailing list) of over 1200 patients, caregivers and supporters. It is a great group of individuals!    God luck and maybe we’ll see on the ‘listserv’ (where you will "meet" a number of people from the U.K.) Hans – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Anyone with any information on Baretts cancer.
