That’s what I’ve got, and in fact I just had a really awful night with it. What they did with me was to start with an endometrial biopsy (rather unpleasant but quick, in the office) to rule out cancer, and then gave me 10 mg of Provera daily for two weeks. This allegedly takes care of a lot of people’s problems. It just made me feel terrible. Then they did a D&C and gave me 30 mg of Provera daily for three months. The D&C was easy; the Provera was fairly awful. This regimen controlled the bleeding for about nine months. When it started up again, they told me my options were low-dose birth-control pills or a hysterectomy. An endometrial ablation is an alternative to hysterectomy. I’m pretty sure there are people on this group who have had an endometrial ablation, as well as those who are taking birth-control pills to control bleeding. Some doctors also start with the low-dose birth control before trying the D&C. The Provera had put me off taking hormones so thoroughly that I did some research on my own and tried nutritional solutions. I’ve had partial and intermittent luck reducing the incidence, but not the severity, of bleeding with a vegan diet and vitamin supplements. I can provide details if you like. The research I did indicated that avoiding dairy products and keeping your fat intake low is probably more important than completely eschewing animal products. — "Moreover, fantasticality does a good deal better than sham psychology." – Virginia Woolf ———————————————————– Pamela Dean Dyer-Bennet p…@ddb.com

I have experienced perimenopausal bleeding also, and last night was the worst epissode I have had. I am presently on the third dose of birth control pill in an effort to control it non-surgically. The doc on call with whom I spoke last night said that he was not crazy about ablation..some women still bleed afterwards. I have had an ultrasound (intravaginal is preferred) and an edometrial biopsy (uncomfortable but bearable and quick). This doctor I spoke with is not my usual (are the usual ever on call when you need them?); but he stated that the uterine line should be checked and measured with the ultrasound…unfortunately mine wsn’t, but I think it can be done from the films. Both docs have suggested that my next option is surgery. After what i went through last night, and after 2 years of intermittent heavy bleeding, I am ready. Still waiting for my own doc to calal me back, so we shall see what happens. I have heard of D&C for bleeding also; but if I need anesthesia, I want the works. Good luck. I’ve been lurking for a few days, and haven’t noticed any/many postings on the symptom that concerns me at the moment — exuberant perimenopausal bleeding. I have an appointment with my gynecologist tomorrow (Friday the 13th) and would like to be informed on my treatment options — preferably not the D&C and look-see he’s talking about.
