Evista

Categories: Cancer Treatment

Question:

I have recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and my doctor wants me to try Evista.  Has anyone ever, or do they now take Evista, and has it had any adverse effects on your headaches?  This scares me a lot. I don’t want my bones to break, but I REALLY don’t want a migraine.   Thanks for any help. LH

Response:

I have been taking Evista for nearly a year now & frankly, I think it may actually be HELPING the migraines.  I read somewhere that tomoxifen (sp?), which is similar to evista (& used as a cancer treatment/preventive), has been reported to work as a migraine preventive, so that seems reasonable. I’m also on fosamax  & of course, take a bit of calcium & magnesium …. my poor old bones ought to be in pretty good shape

Response:

Hi, So glad to hear your upbeat answer to my posting.  Probably you don’t want to read the stuff about the drugs.  I guess when you read literature about any drug it is scary.  I’m so glad it all works so well for you and you have no problems with these pills.   Thanks. LH

Response:

Do you have Osteoporosis?

yes…I  had a bone density done some time back but don’t know the reading. In answer to your other questions, I wasn’t at all scared to start either fosamax or evista.  The former I’d never heard of before starting & the later i’d heard good things about vis a vis migraine. I’ve ehard nothing about side effects for either & I must admit I haven’t bothered to read the literature on either.  I do not seem to be experiencing ANY side effects at all & am only accepting on faith that they’re working on the osteo. I have not considered HRT becuase of migraine.  Years ago on BCPs, the migraines were totally out of control.

Response:

Thanks for info. Do you have Osteoporosis?  My doctor says my reading was -3.2 on the bone density test.  Were you scared to start the Evista and Fosamax at all?  I hear about the strange side effects with Fosamax and Evista is so new.  I’m encouraged to hear you think the Evista actually helps.  That’s the best thing I’ve heard lately.  Do you not take regular HRT due to your migraines? I’ve always been afraid of it. Thanks again. LH
