Burzynski Clinic
Question:
BTW, how does that happen that selected posts just disappear? There were two responses that I saw. By now, you will have found those responses on google. If not, follow this link: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&ic=1&th=3591c4e504… T D Laing took your question at face value. She pretty much summed up my feelings.
Actually I was being rather kind when I answered, for several reasons. I think anyone who’s read this ng long enough knows my true feelings about Burzynski’s "method". But as Lisa said, this topic has been done to death in the past, so why open yet another tedious can of worms? After a few weeks (hours?) searching for cancer info on the internet, you get a quick eye for most scams. Burzynski makes my eye twitch hard, so to speak, but doesn’t actually seem to be breaking any laws.
I would venture to say he and his supporters are well aware of how far they can go without breaking laws. Remember Burzynski is familiar with the legal system, having tangled with it before. Part of my caution comes from having seen his web site go through some transformations where "red flag" items were removed and the site became more and more respectable looking. Having seen an earlier version, I know the glossy vinear hides the same old anti-establishment testimonial junk we hear all the time from people who sell disproven quack cures.
Exactly. A leopard cannot hide its spots. I have heard (though not confirmed for myself) that Burzynski has stopped offering clinical trials altogether. This is yet another red flag. A method that works should easily be able to produce results in clinical trials. I sort of read your "body language" and wondered. It seems to me, from reading between the lines, AND I COULD BE WRONG, that you are not here because your life is touched by cancer. Please don’t take offense if I am wrong, all these scams have made me more than a little suspicious. I get the feeling that you are more interested in us than in cancer. Am I right? Are you part of another psych profile research team?
I usually take my time answering posts so I do consider the intent of the poster. I think the intention was sincere, but enough information was missing to plant a seed of doubt. Please don’t take offense, Mr./Ms. Pluta, but many of us here have seen all sorts of things on this newsgroup. Most posters will say what type(s) of cancer they or their loved ones had/have, for example. Many posters have have become expert in their particular cancer and may be able to point you to different treatments etc. if they know they can help you. There have been about nine in the last four or five months, every ploy from "I’m writing a book" to the direct email request I got to participate in a psych profile study. Using a "negative acceptance" ploy were if I didn’t answer "no" they assumed "yes". What a crock. I don’t know who is funding all this, but one of the things that comes to mind is some kind of an alt-med marketing board.
Another thing to consider is what legal issues there may be. There is a rather loose, informal association of altmed "stars" (Burzynski, Gonzalez, Clark et al) and their supporters–they all know each other, or at least are aware of what each other is doing. At least a few of them (some who IMHO unwisely continue to post) are currently facing litigation. T.

Hello All, I am new to this group, and to the cancer at all, so maybe this topic was already covered in the past. I would like to ask a question: can anyone share his/her opinions about Burzynski Clinic? I’ve already browsed their web site and associated links, but I am interested in opinions and thoughts of members of this group. Thanks Ireneusz Pluta

Welcome, Ireneusz. Would you like to tell us a little about yourself? How do come to join us, are you a patient, caregiver, professional? I’m a patient, a true head case… you’ll see. <grin I would like to ask a question: can anyone share his/her opinions about Burzynski Clinic? I won’t be going there. It sounds like you are doing a poll for someone. Care to let us know who is trying to manipulate whom? — Oisin "Curly++" Curtin http://pages.infinit.net/curlypp/ oligo 3, szr 6/1/2k, biopsy 6/19/2k, rad 30 8/24/2k-10/11/2k, stable!

I am sorry you are facing cancer. This newsgroup is an excellent resource. I would like to ask a question: can anyone share his/her opinions about Burzynski Clinic? I’ve already browsed their web site and associated links, but I am interested in opinions and thoughts of members of this group.
Burzynski has been offering his "antineoplaston" treatment for almost 30 years now. I can say that it is definitely controversial. Basically he has yet to offer any good evidence that it works. In fact, he has come under a lot of fire for dubious clinical trial protocols in the past. His results, or rather the glaring lack thereof, have prevented the treatment (rightly) from being considered seriously by the medical community (efforts by supporters notwithstanding). (I had a link to an article on www.cancerletter.com that described these in detail, but it’s now pay-only–the real downside of the internet these days. I have other links–you can contact me privately for them.) The method is not cheap–about $250,000 US ($40,000 up front), and it takes a long time (about 18 months). I see from your e-mail address that you are in Poland? There are many excellent cancer centres in Europe, have you checked them out? Have you consulted with an oncologist? May I ask, if and why you are considering this particular method? Hope this helps, T.

Hi All I posted this initially on May 2th, now I can see my post disappeared from the server. I got one answer, unfortunately this expired too and I do not have a copy. Can I ask that person to repost the answer? BTW, how does that happen that selected posts just disappear? Ireneusz, I think that you only got one response. The Burzynski Clinic is a very controversial subject — it’s been talked to death here in the past. You should be able to do a google search (since they took over the deja stuff) and find the old threads. Essentially ,if I remember correctly, it is an extremely expensive proposition that has no proof of efficacy. Proponents say that it works, yet no data has ever been provided to show this. Burzynski simply refuses to show his results. I think that I have that right. In any case, I think that people did not want to open the can of worms again and that’s why you only got one response. Take care. …lisa
