Staphylococcus & Pseudomonas
Question:
My first infection was Pseudomonas.Take it from me it is a very very serious infection.I think only 60% of people are successfully treated with Anti-biotics.last year in Adelaide(Australia) a heap of people in recovery/intensive care got this infection and they died. Of all the infections I have had this was the worst and it took THREE courses of Ciprfoxin 500 to get rid of it…..although I believe the continued suffedring I now have is an aftermath of the Pseudomonas infection. — Kindest personal regards Ray The Travellin’ Man LET’S KEEP MUSIC LIVE!! Since I have been using the Water Pic, I have only had one infection since last July.. What I would like to know has anyone been diagnosis with a Staphylococcus and a Pseudomonas in there sinus.. I have had this problem since my first surgery in 1994 Can’t seem to get rid of the dame problem. I irrigate twice a day now. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Margaret

Regrettably , Cipro has lost its effectiveness against many cases of Pseudomonas infection in my area – Los Angeles. This comes from overprescribing it for colds and hang nails. Murray Grossan, M.D. http://www.ent-consult.com http://www.TinnitusRelief.net http://www.emedicine.com/ent/topic516.htm

I was recently cured of a serious Pseudomonas sinus infection. After 6 months of continuous treatment with various antibiotics, I finally decided to try using the gentamycin/saline irrigation method . After a normal 20 day treatment, the infection was irradicated, but I still had alot of mucus draining. In a way I am lucky that being a woman, I was suffering from a vaginal yeast infection brought on by all the oral antibiotics. When the doctor gave me Diflucan for the yeast, the mucus completely cleared up. I believe the Diflucan cleared all the yeast from all parts of my body. It dodn’t take a huge dose, just 2 pills 7 days apart. If you need the details of the genta irrigation, you can email Dr Grossan. I received all the info on how its done from him. Nadine

Thanks Margaret Take antibiotics as directed by your doc. but also take probiotics to replenish with helpful bacteria, which compete with the molds for food and thereby ‘control’ them. Otherwise the molds will outgrow and it will be difficult to restore the right balance between the helpful bacteria and molds in your sinuses and elsewhere. Probiotics is the new name for Acidophillus of various strains. see my posting, ‘Probiotics and Mucous Membranes.’

Yes, I already posted on that. My latest sinus culture found: – Enterococcus Faecalis – Staph Epidermitis The Enterococcus Faecalis is Gram-positive; the usual oral antibiotics won’t work on it. I’d rather take Genta by irrigation than have to take it intravenously. My fungal sinus culture is still pending; I’ll let you know. > I didn’t use the Diflucan until after finishing all antibiotic treatment. How long were you on the Diflucan before you started to notice an improvement in your respiratory symptoms (less mucus, etc.)? I’ve been taking it for a whole week; so far, no improvement. > IMO, its best to wait until finishing all antibiotics before starting yeast > medication.
The way this is going, I may never completely clear all the bacteria out of my respiratory tract. — Steven D. Litvintchouk Email: sdlit…@earthlink.net

Once you start the genta irrigation the bacteria will clear up. Just stick to the regimen, twice a day for 20 days. You’ll be amazed at what will drain out of the recesses of your sinuses early in the treatment. I took the Diflucan twice. Two pills, 7 days apart. Never needed more. IMO, I think the Diflucan is useless until the bacteria is gone and the antibiotics have been stopped. Once you use Diflucan there is nothing as safe to use if the yeast become resistant. Other anti-fungals, like the ones used for AIDS/cancer patients are pretty toxic. Nadine

Steven, Did you get a culture done that showed a specific bacteria and what antibiotics it is susceptible/resistant to? Genta is very strong and I wouldn’t have used it unless I was sure it was right for the bacteria, since it could cause a super-infection. I didn’t use the Diflucan until after finishing all antibiotic treatment. I tried it in between antibiotics but the yeast just comes right back as soon as I took more antibiotics. IMO, its best to wait until finishing all antibiotics before starting yeast medication. (I suppose women are more versed in this stuff than men, since we get obvious yeast infections due to antibiotics all our lives) Nadine

I’m about to try a combination of oral Diflucan + genta irrigation myself. I just emailed Dr. Grossan to get the info on the genta irrigation. — Steven D. Litvintchouk Email: sdlit…@earthlink.net

Both Staph and Pseudomonas are common bugs infecting the sinuses. That’s unfortunate, because both of them are stubborn and tough to kill. Even if your doctor could find an effective antibiotic, you’ve suffered with these infections for so long that you might need to take that antibiotic for *months* to be sure of eradicating the infection. http://www.sinuses.com/md.htm — Steven D.
