One of the things i really like about ASD. Some of the men here do open up and discuss their feelings. Not something i’ve run across too often in RL.

That’s just been my experience, admittedly only based on about 10 people. Such a broad generalization is very confusing – are you a paranoid schizophrenic who believes the WHOLE WORLD is out to get him? Or is this comment directed toward specific people?

It’s not paranoia if the whole world really IS out to get you. Is this the type of communication that was either (a) the trigger for, or (b) the response to, all this yelling you say your ex did?

The National Council Against Health Fraud’s Mission statement says it focuses attention on health fraud, misinformation and quackery as public health problems. That clearly is a lie. They don’t mention Dr Wilson who clearly committed fraud, kept secrets from this loving and caring, volunteering teanager and his family and is still on staff. I think it’s pretty inappropriate that a prosecutor for the state should become a member of a political group that has as their very mission the exposure and destruction of complimentary and alternative medicine," Waters said. I also neglected to mention that CBS was traveling around the State, interviewing top AltMed leaders on camera. Of course, I kept it to myself that CBS was carefully directed to take a HARD look at the Quackbuster operation nationwide, including the dubious National Council Against Health Fraud (NCAHF), the questionable website www.quackwatch.com, and their relationship with two card-carrying quackbuster members employed as Wisconsin Department of Regulation & Licensing (DRL) prosecutors, Arthur Thexton, and James Polewski. Hello All, My darling partner Cathy has lymphoma (high grade). We had so much faith and hope. First the CHOP failed, then the radiation and now the stem cell transplant. The lymphoma is back after only six months and has been found in her stomach, lung and bone marrow. Cathy has had such strength throughout now is broken and lost. We have tried searching for clinical trials but nothing here in UK. The oncologist has given her oral Etoposide for seven days every month and will talk to us again this week to explain more as he didn’t want to overload us all in one go. We have great faith and confidence in this man but need to ask if anyone has any other ideas or better treatment in these circumstances. Thank you for your help and prayers. Robert

Robert, the honest truth is that nothing available inside or outside a clinical trial is going to cure this disease. Oral etoposide is as likely as anything else to get a response, and is very free from side-effects.

Out of the millions of AOL members, I’m willing to bet that less than 1% know about Usenet. One thing that came out of the problem last week was that the AOL Tech Support people didn’t know the difference between AOL’s internal message boards and the internet newsgroups.

I used to be on the old Prodigy, before its Y2K demise. They had regular bulletin boards on various subjects, including the internet. Prodigy had a big "sign" on entry to that board, saying "this is not the internet". Even so, a substantial number of the posts there started with "this is my first email to the internet….". Funny thing is, I "grew up" on usenet using *P’s usenet reader and somehow the others have never seemed as good… go figure

Hi Tricia, The web makes filing complaints about stores, etc so easy. And they will often offer you something in return. Recently we took my niece to chuck e cheese for her birthday and they didn’t have anyone matching the kids to the adults when we left (it is supposed to be their security measure to stamp the kids and adults together, so another adult can’t leave with a child)

That’s a safety issue, so I’m glad you filed a complaint. So I wrote to them via their website, not only did they say they would look into they sent me a gift card for one of their pizza packages, about a $25 value. It’s nice to know they are making and effort to make me happy. AT&T blows, they haven’t even responded to the complaint I sent to the better business breau.

It was forward-thinking of them to win your goodwill from a business standpoint, ’cause the next time the kids want pizza you’ll think of Chuck E. Cheese’s first, won’t you?

Hi Kitty, There’s a history here, Carmen. If someone is going to stay with AOL, it’s up to them to understand AOL’s limitations and develop ways around it. If the limitations become intolerable, then leave. There are aol.newsgroups.help and aol.newsgroups.bugs and aol.newsgroups.talk that I checked out when it became apparent that posts were not going through. They were ugly and the original poster’s AOL VICTIMS post came out of those newsgroups.

That’s an interesting take on AOL. . I’ve been on AOL a long time…since the demise of eWorld and I’ll continue on it until my children are old enough that parental controls are no longer useful and, fortunately, that won’t be much longer.

If parental controls are the crucial feature that keeps you from switching ISPs, there are ways to get the same or better control if you’d like some assistance. I’d be glad to help. Usenet is a small part of my online time and, yes, it was no big deal.

When you get poor service like that you have to vote with your wallet. Last summer I got cable internet from AT&T and they had some technical issue that kept me completely offline for a week. Then they would get snippy when I kept calling them about fixing it. All they offered me was a credit for the days I was offline. So I quit and switched to Earthlink DSL and have been much happier. ATT could have kept me if they had been a little bit apologetic and offered me something for my trouble, like a free month of service. But they don’t care they felt like they are a monopoly since they are the only ones here offering cable internet. AOL has such a large customer base they probably have a similar attitude. There are so many ISPs out there, if one treats you poorly Move to another. Don’t keep giving the ones with crappy customer service your money! Keep your email address through something not linked to your ISP (your own domain or even free services like yahoo or hotmail) Tricia

Marilyn You snipped most of the post I was responding to which isn’t quite fair. The original poster wanted all AOL "victims" to call AOL and demand a free month’s service. Most posters on AOL know that AOL has a reputation for missing posts and if your post appears to be ignored, you google it to see if there were responses you haven’t seen. I’m kind of curious about this. AOL allowed an entire week to elapse before they restored the Usenet functionality, yet you state it’s not a big deal. As a consumer you pay for that service. Would you hold the same attitude towards your cable company if they were only on half the time for a one week period? I can certainly understand your sensitivity about the way AOLers are viewed, but surely that cannot be helped by stating that AOL is known for missing posts too with an implied "Oh well". I think I threw her for a loop when I told her that it was OK. She was almost sexually excited from all of this and you should have seen her face when she said, "I’m ready to go, let’s go to the cash register." I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No, honey. I don’t feel like buying all this stuff now." You should have seen her face …. it went completely blank. I then said, "Really honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "You obviously are not in tune with my financial needs as a Man." I figure that I should be having sex again sometime during the spring thaw of 2005.

"no wonder this is a divorce group!". Most of us are here BECAUSE of divorce. Divorce is ugly, damaging, and not very funny for many of us. People here are at many different stages of healing. Posting the joke is one thing, but coming back to ridicule people for their reactions TO the joke is pretty low. Almost "passive-aggressive", i might say. Yes, it is a divorce group. Some people here have been very hurt by another person or persons and they are not ready to have that made lightly by a joke, or made into a mockery. If i recall, your joke was about women withholding sex from her husband and spending his money. Personally, i don’t find that pleasant or funny to think about. I am divorced from a relationship where the exact opposite was the case for a very long time. And others may find bits of truth in that joke, too, that still hit sore spots with them. Yes, it’s a divorce group. Now why not go to a a rape support group and post rape jokes? Why not go to an incest support group and post incest jokes? Not in tune…. I never have quite figured out why the sexual urges of men & women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Mars & Venus thing. And, I never have figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart. And, I never yet have figured out how the sexual desire gene gets thrown into a state of turmoil, when it hears the words "I do". One evening last week, my wife and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says, "I don’t feel like it, I just want you to hold me." I said, "WHAT??" So she says the words that I and every husband on the planet dreads. She explains that I’m obviously not in tune with her emotional needs as a Woman. I’m thinking, "What was her first clue?" I finally realize that nothing is going to happen that night, so I go to bed. The very next day we went shopping at a big unnamed department store… I walked around while she tried on three very expensive outfits. She couldn’t decide which one to take, so I told her to take all three of them. She then tells me that she wants matching shoes worth $200 each to which I say OK. And then we go to the Jewellery Dept. where she gets a set of diamond earrings. Let me tell you …she was so excited. She must have thought that I was one wave short of a shipwreck, but I don’t think she cared. I think she was testing me when she asked for a tennis bracelet because she doesn’t even play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I told her that it was OK. She was almost sexually excited from all of this and you should have seen her face when she said, "I’m ready to go, let’s go to the cash register." I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No, honey. I don’t feel like buying all this stuff now." You should have seen her face …. it went completely blank. I then said, "Really honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "You obviously are not in tune with my financial needs as a Man." I figure that I should be having sex again sometime during the spring thaw of 2005.

Florida Cold Spell

Cheer up, everyone! It’s supposed to get better down here starting tomorrow, and tonight is predicted to be less horrific than the past couple were. Brrrr! I’ve had just about enough of layering my clothes, the cat is paranoid about the sheet-covered plants and the cold patio, and I want to put my Polartec "sack" back in the sweater bag in the guest room!

Caps, I think fungicide prophylaxis would be a good idea. Is there any leaf damage (softening) that you can see yet? Before I got my greenhouse I kept mine in a shade house which I hung plastic around during the cold spells and used a small electric heater. I did not have any major problems with fungus mainly loosing leaves due to the cool temperatures. They all seemed to bloom when it warmed up.
