One of the things i really like about ASD. Some of the men here do open up and discuss their feelings. Not something i’ve run across too often in RL.

Response:

If you’re as full of yourself, IRL, I bet you’re a real charmer too… – A man stood up, at show-n-tell, and said: I may be a little bitter but at least I’m man enough to be able to talk about my feelings and work things out, unlike you other old-fashioned schmucks.

Who are these "other old fashioned schmucks"? Such a broad generalization is very confusing – are you a paranoid schizophrenic who believes the WHOLE WORLD is out to get him? Or is this comment directed toward specific people? Is this the type of communication that was either (a) the trigger for, or (b) the response to, all this yelling you say your ex did? Curious,

Response:

@NOSPAM.30551.invalid spoke thusly… I may be a little bitter but at least I’m man enough to be able to talk about my feelings and work things out, unlike you other old-fashioned schmucks. You were venting your anger more than talking about your feelings. A little different thing. But, all in all, you come across as a not unpleasant person, unlike Mr. Boob from soc.men, even though you sound quite upset.

Sorry. That day was a bad day. However, I hear over and over about how the older men can’t talk about their feelings, like in cancer support groups. They can’t talk whether they are the patient or supporter. But I understand that’s just how they were raised. —

That’s just been my experience, admittedly only based on about 10 people. Such a broad generalization is very confusing – are you a paranoid schizophrenic who believes the WHOLE WORLD is out to get him? Or is this comment directed toward specific people?

It’s not paranoia if the whole world really IS out to get you. Is this the type of communication that was either (a) the trigger for, or (b) the response to, all this yelling you say your ex did?

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Ok, Tim. Maybe you can point them in the right direction re: your accusations that the quackbuster operations are being plotted in a NY ad agency funded by pharmaceutical companies. That might be a really fun expose, better than just a Wisconsin thing. That would be *much* bigger than a couple of out of control prosecutors in Wisconsin. Indeed. It’d be real interesting to see if Tim try to get a national network to investigate his accusations. I have no idea what Bolen looks like, but I always picture him as twitching a lot, foaming at the mouth, and screaming every so often. Does anyone else get the same impression? I don’t think he’d make good TV. He’s not a bad looking guy actually…unless that finger is hiding something terrible.
I can’t really agree with you there; unless the pictures you can get to from those links (especially the latter one) are bad pics, he’s no looker. And he could have wiped the foam away. Still pictures don’t tell us about the twitching or screaming, either. — David Wright :: alphabeta at prodigy.net These are my opinions only, but they’re almost always correct. "If I have not seen as far as others, it is because giants were standing on my shoulders." (Hal Abelson, MIT)

I didn’t see that. Where did you see that? Another doctor, named Watters, has been investigated, but there’s a 1997 complaint against him.

I meant from patients. The complaint was from the *state*. ""Financial loss, fear, worry, my staff never knows if I’ll still be in business — this is very serious," said Dr. Robert Waters (pictured, right), who runs a Wisconsin Dells Clinic. He’s had no patient complaints, ever. Still he says he’s spent $20,000 on lawyers, and another $8,000 for high-risk malpractice insurance. Why? Because the state’s had an open investigation against him for six years. " BL "As the waves pass the rock, their shape is changed. There is a hologram of the rock within the wave that comes forward and crashes on the beach, then there’s a reflected wave back." Ralph Abraham "I’d like to learn to windsurf." BL

Not only that he is arrogant. Stating no alternative practitioner can be trusted. He even goes against some alternative methods that have been acepted by conventional. Can you please take a moment to provide the exact citation? Thanks. Perhaps Tim will let me read it when I drop in to his mailbox office in January. I imagine I will have to stand in the street to read it because there probably isn’t room in the mailbox for Tim, me and the transcript together.

Well, well, well. It looks like ol’ Timmy has been caught in a bit of exaggeration. It looks like the reports are being done by the local CBS affiliate in Madison, WI. Not exactly your national or big-market report, I’m afraid. I asked you in the other thread about providing the exact citation of where I can read the cross exam of Dr. Baratz which shows that he is not board certified. Can you please take a moment to provide the exact citation? Thanks.

Perhaps Tim will let me read it when I drop in to his mailbox office in January. I imagine I will have to stand in the street to read it because there probably isn’t room in the mailbox for Tim, me and the transcript together. — Peter Bowditch The Millenium Project http://www.ratbags.com/rsoles The Green Light http://www.ratbags.com/greenlight and The New Improved Quintessence of the Loon with added Vitamins and C-Q10 http://www.ratbags.com/loon To email me use my first name only at ratbags.com

Can you please take a moment to provide the exact citation? Thanks. Mark, that is probably part of the cross that was not put on the website. If you are that interested, why don’t you call the groups?

Please allow Mr. Bolen to provide the answer. It goes to his credibility.

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I intentionally forgot to mention, in my articles about the War in Wisconsin, that CBS television was filming our every move in Madison, Umm, I did get the website for the first report– http://www.channel3000.com/news/2643873/detail.html Tim, I would call this a local CBS affiliate. Just in the interests of keeping the facts straight!! And to think all of us were expecting it on 60 Minutes!! Find that NY ad agency and maybe it will be. What I did note is that doctors WHO HAVE HAD NO COMPLAINTS LODGED AGAINST THEM have been targeted. However, Tim, like Barrett, is engaging in selective quoting of the report, so read it yourself.
The National Council Against Health Fraud’s Mission statement says it focuses attention on health fraud, misinformation and quackery as public health problems. That clearly is a lie. They don’t mention Dr Wilson who clearly committed fraud, kept secrets from this loving and caring, volunteering teanager and his family and is still on staff. I think it’s pretty inappropriate that a prosecutor for the state should become a member of a political group that has as their very mission the exposure and destruction of complimentary and alternative medicine," Waters said. Yep far more than inappropriate. More like became a member, after he was paid. That’s how *organized medicine* works. They should be known as the organized medicine mafia. Jan

CBS Nukes Wisconsin Quackbuster Assault… Opinion by Consumer Advocate Tim Bolen November 18th, 2003 Who says the national media isn’t interested in the attack on Alternative Medicine? If it was YOU, don’t say it any more, because it just happened in Madison, Wisconsin. And, it wasn’t that hard to accomplish. I intentionally forgot to mention, in my articles about the War in Wisconsin, that CBS television was filming our every move in Madison, Wisconsin’s capitol. I also neglected to mention that CBS was traveling around the State, interviewing top AltMed leaders on camera. Of course, I kept it to myself that CBS was carefully directed to take a HARD look at the Quackbuster operation nationwide, including the dubious National Council Against Health Fraud (NCAHF), the questionable website www.quackwatch.com, and their relationship with two card-carrying quackbuster members employed as Wisconsin Department of Regulation & Licensing (DRL) prosecutors, Arthur Thexton, and James Polewski. Why did I keep this quiet? When we’ve been working on this for months? I like to surprise the quackbusters. It’s good for their psyche.

What religion is Cathy; Does Cathy have anything against anybody, specially her parents; Is she an obbedient woman; when she prays, does she pray with full faith that she will be healed. I would like to analyze this for my own purpose, and to help you if possible. You can reply to my e-mail address. No you don’t need to change your doctor.

With your genuine effort to get information in your original posting I don’t believe that you needed someone to be bringing up the manner in which you replied.

Bob, You are probably using a threaded newsreader, so you had no trouble. Not everyone uses threaded newsreaders. Some newbies are not aware of the problems top posting creates for the reader, and it is appropriate for someone to bring it to their attention. J did nothing wrong by mentioning it to Robert. No person should feel offended for being advised of Usenet rules. It is standard Usenet etiquette to avoid top posting. Maybe this will explain it to you: "Please use good netiquette, trim quoted material (long messages) or unnecessary cross posting in your replies, and avoid top posting and SHOUTING. Don’t assume that your message will be read at the same time as the post you are replying to, and don’t assume that all readers will be using a threaded newsreader. By quoting the relevant parts of the message you are replying to, it provides a context for your reply. Your message will make more sense to readers if you reply below quoted text. This is true if the reader has not seen the post to which you are replying, or reads it out-of-order." Jerry "If you haven’t all the things you want, be grateful for the things you don’t have that you wouldn’t want." – Anonymous

Hello All, My darling partner Cathy has lymphoma (high grade). We had so much faith and hope. First the CHOP failed, then the radiation and now the stem cell transplant. The lymphoma is back after only six months and has been found in her stomach, lung and bone marrow. Cathy has had such strength throughout now is broken and lost. We have tried searching for clinical trials but nothing here in UK. The oncologist has given her oral Etoposide for seven days every month and will talk to us again this week to explain more as he didn’t want to overload us all in one go. We have great faith and confidence in this man but need to ask if anyone has any other ideas or better treatment in these circumstances. Thank you for your help and prayers. Robert

  – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello All, My darling partner Cathy has lymphoma (high grade). Robert

Robert, the honest truth is that nothing available inside or outside a clinical trial is going to cure this disease. Oral etoposide is as likely as anything else to get a response, and is very free from side-effects.

Out of the millions of AOL members, I’m willing to bet that less than 1% know about Usenet. One thing that came out of the problem last week was that the AOL Tech Support people didn’t know the difference between AOL’s internal message boards and the internet newsgroups.

I used to be on the old Prodigy, before its Y2K demise. They had regular bulletin boards on various subjects, including the internet. Prodigy had a big "sign" on entry to that board, saying "this is not the internet". Even so, a substantial number of the posts there started with "this is my first email to the internet….". Funny thing is, I "grew up" on usenet using *P’s usenet reader and somehow the others have never seemed as good… go figure<G. I’m curious whether AOL ever made an announcement to its members that their usenet posts were not going through? I’m assuming they have a sign-on screen where they would have pertinent information.
Not a word. The "Known Problems in Newsgroups" hasn’t been updated since September 2002. aol.newsgroups.announcements hasn’t had a posting in months. and Tech Support told those who called that postings are only supposed to be seen by other AOL members, thereby showing that Tech Support doesn’t know the difference between internet newsgroups and AOL’s internal message boards.
Hi Tricia, The web makes filing complaints about stores, etc so easy. And they will often offer you something in return. Recently we took my niece to chuck e cheese for her birthday and they didn’t have anyone matching the kids to the adults when we left (it is supposed to be their security measure to stamp the kids and adults together, so another adult can’t leave with a child)

That’s a safety issue, so I’m glad you filed a complaint. So I wrote to them via their website, not only did they say they would look into they sent me a gift card for one of their pizza packages, about a $25 value. It’s nice to know they are making and effort to make me happy. AT&T blows, they haven’t even responded to the complaint I sent to the better business breau.

It was forward-thinking of them to win your goodwill from a business standpoint, ’cause the next time the kids want pizza you’ll think of Chuck E. Cheese’s first, won’t you? <G I don’t complain often. In the last 6 months the only product that just burned my backside was the "3 day mascara" (Colorstay Overtime) that Revlon put out. It stayed put, even in the rain. In the end it was horrible stuff though, mainly because it wouldn’t come off with oily waterproof eye makeup remover (that’s what the instructions said would take it off). After I tried several different brands of removers I ended up scraping it off my lashes with my fingernails! They offered to replace it with another mascara if I sent it back. I said "No thank you, I’ll switch to another company – one that tests their products more thoroughly before bringing them to market". The lady said "Okay ma’am, have a good day." Funny thing, I don’t buy Revlon anymore. — Take care, Carmen of Borg Blonde Borgs have the same fun.

Most of the technicians at ISPs — even big ones like AOL — don’t even know Usenet exists. There’s usually one older geek who was on the net before 1998 who makes sure they have Usenet service because he uses it himself. At one small ISP I do some work for, they’ve had enough turnover that I doubt anyone there knows about their Usenet feed. — Aaron 280/242/200

These are all schools that are listed as "highly selective" so we are just hoping for four or five acceptances and then he can make the final decision. It’s an anxious time for him but I foresee that the outcome will be a good one.
Hi Kitty, There’s a history here, Carmen. If someone is going to stay with AOL, it’s up to them to understand AOL’s limitations and develop ways around it. If the limitations become intolerable, then leave. There are aol.newsgroups.help and aol.newsgroups.bugs and aol.newsgroups.talk that I checked out when it became apparent that posts were not going through. They were ugly and the original poster’s AOL VICTIMS post came out of those newsgroups.

That’s an interesting take on AOL. . I’ve been on AOL a long time…since the demise of eWorld and I’ll continue on it until my children are old enough that parental controls are no longer useful and, fortunately, that won’t be much longer.

If parental controls are the crucial feature that keeps you from switching ISPs, there are ways to get the same or better control if you’d like some assistance. I’d be glad to help. Usenet is a small part of my online time and, yes, it was no big deal.

Thank you for taking the time Kitty. Sometimes being curious is real PITA. — Take care, Carmen Any closet is a walk-in closet if you try hard enough.

I appreciate the offer, Carmen. My oldest child (for whom parental controls are unnecessary finally) is currently in the midst of the college application process and all of the colleges he has applied to have his AOL screen name as a contact point. The last thing we need right now is to change the email address and AOL does not have an email forwarding option. My younger son is rapidly closing in on not needing parental controls and once his brother is college bound, we’ll probably make the switch to another ISP. Out of the millions of AOL members, I’m willing to bet that less than 1% know about Usenet. One thing that came out of the problem last week was that the AOL Tech Support people didn’t know the difference between AOL’s internal message boards and the internet newsgroups. I don’t like histrionics and a post with ATTENTION AOL VICTIMS just pushes all the wrong buttons in me. You’re not an AOL victim unless you let yourself be and if AOL doesn’t serve your needs, vote with your feet…..or your fingers on the keyboard as the case may be. Kitty.

Thanks, Carmen. He’s got eight applications out there and every one of them is to a school I’d be delighted to see him in. These are all schools that are listed as "highly selective" so we are just hoping for four or five acceptances and then he can make the final decision. It’s an anxious time for him but I foresee that the outcome will be a good one. Kitty.

I’m kind of curious about this. AOL allowed an entire week to elapse before they restored the Usenet functionality, yet you state it’s not a big deal. As a consumer you pay for that service. Would you hold the same attitude towards your cable company if they were only on half the time for a one week period?

When you get poor service like that you have to vote with your wallet. Last summer I got cable internet from AT&T and they had some technical issue that kept me completely offline for a week. Then they would get snippy when I kept calling them about fixing it. All they offered me was a credit for the days I was offline. So I quit and switched to Earthlink DSL and have been much happier. ATT could have kept me if they had been a little bit apologetic and offered me something for my trouble, like a free month of service. But they don’t care they felt like they are a monopoly since they are the only ones here offering cable internet. AOL has such a large customer base they probably have a similar attitude. There are so many ISPs out there, if one treats you poorly Move to another. Don’t keep giving the ones with crappy customer service your money! Keep your email address through something not linked to your ISP (your own domain or even free services like yahoo or hotmail) Tricia

From January 4 until today, if you posted to the newsgroups directly through AOL, only other AOL members could see your posts. Some AOL members found other newsreaders or new ISPs and some of us started posting through Google. Problems appears to be fixed as of today. Kitty.

Marilyn You snipped most of the post I was responding to which isn’t quite fair. The original poster wanted all AOL "victims" to call AOL and demand a free month’s service. Most posters on AOL know that AOL has a reputation for missing posts and if your post appears to be ignored, you google it to see if there were responses you haven’t seen. AOL members have a reputation for a lack of internet sophistication and the original post to "AOL VICTIMS" did nothing to contradict that. Kitty.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Not in tune…. I never have quite figured out why the sexual urges of men & women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Mars & Venus thing. And, I never have figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart. And, I never yet have figured out how the sexual desire gene gets thrown into a state of turmoil, when it hears the words "I do". One evening last week, my wife and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says, "I don’t feel like it, I just want you to hold me." I said, "WHAT??" So she says the words that I and every husband on the planet dreads. She explains that I’m obviously not in tune with her emotional needs as a Woman. I’m thinking, "What was her first clue?" I finally realize that nothing is going to happen that night, so I go to bed. The very next day we went shopping at a big unnamed department store… I walked around while she tried on three very expensive outfits. She couldn’t decide which one to take, so I told her to take all three of them. She then tells me that she wants matching shoes worth $200 each to which I say OK. And then we go to the Jewellery Dept. where she gets a set of diamond earrings. Let me tell you …she was so excited. She must have thought that I was one wave short of a shipwreck, but I don’t think she cared. I think she was testing me when she asked for a tennis bracelet because she doesn’t even play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I told her that it was OK. She was almost sexually excited from all of this and you should have seen her face when she said, "I’m ready to go, let’s go to the cash register." I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No, honey. I don’t feel like buying all this stuff now." You should have seen her face …. it went completely blank. I then said, "Really honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "You obviously are not in tune with my financial needs as a Man." I figure that I should be having sex again sometime during the spring thaw of 2005.

Cute story, but it’s not always the case. Some of us prefer sex to shopping. Some women have very high sexual urges.

Some women also have jobs, and don’t abdicate all the financial power in the relationship to the man. Get in tune with THAT. -b

And some women/men "find" they have a high sex drive when the the right person comes along. By the way… that same story was posted here by someone else quite awhile back. JA

my god, there are some freakin stiffs in here!! "abdicate all the financial power"?? wow, that’s deep! shit, take a joke guys! no wonder why this is a divorce group!

Yes, it is a divorce group. Some people here have been very hurt by another person or persons and they are not ready to have that made lightly by a joke, or made into a mockery. If i recall, your joke was about women withholding sex from her husband and spending his money. Personally, i don’t find that pleasant or funny to think about. I am divorced from a relationship where the exact opposite was the case for a very long time. And others may find bits of truth in that joke, too, that still hit sore spots with them. Yes, it’s a divorce group. Now why not go to a a rape support group and post rape jokes? Why not go to an incest support group and post incest jokes? How about cancer support group, and post jokes about losing hair? Sometimes jokes go over well here, and other times they’re found offensive, and often a mix of both reactions. Yes. "no wonder this is a divorce group!". Most of us are here BECAUSE of divorce. Divorce is ugly, damaging, and not very funny for many of us. People here are at many different stages of healing. Posting the joke is one thing, but coming back to ridicule people for their reactions TO the joke is pretty low. Almost "passive-aggressive", i might say. Maybe that’s why YOU’RE divorced?

Not in tune….

Caps, I think fungicide prophylaxis would be a good idea. Is there any leaf damage (softening) that you can see yet?
Before I got my greenhouse I kept mine in a shade house which I hung plastic around during the cold spells and used a small electric heater. I did not have any major problems with fungus mainly loosing leaves due to the cool temperatures. They all seemed to bloom when it warmed up. Good luck, it is suppose to get cold again tonight. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’ve tried to keep my orchid house as warm as possible, however with the wind the plants still got some preetyy cold temps.
