Oh Kili I feel sooooo bad for you! I just don’t know what to say. {{{{{{{Kili}}}}}}} Love, Di

Thanks, Di. I’m a little depressed, but I have to go through it. I don’t have much of a choice. It’s going to be a long road to recuperation. I’ll keep you guys posted. kili — The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Well, I’m back from the Mayo Clinic for the first round of tests. Sheesh, what an ordeal! I have to go back next week to duplicate many I’ve already had done (they want to be SURE) and add on a few more. (I’ve already had a CT scan, a bone scan, an MRI, an ultrasound and a chest X-Ray.) Basically, the oncologists, radiologists, surgeons and specialists I’ve seen tell me that they’ve never run across a case like mine and it’s going to take some radical surgery to get my tumor out. The tumor is wrapped up in the connective tissue between my ribs and is almost reaching my heart. Because it’s almost to my heart and lungs, they do not want to have me go through radiation for fear that radiation could damage my heart and lungs. What they’re thinking they may do (but they’re still conferring and they’ll know more after more tests next week) is that they will remove my sternum, three ribs, my left breast and the muscle on my left chest side. Since that would leave me with a rather large hole in my chest that would expose my heart, they want to remove my lower two abdominal muscles from the "6-pack", place a strip of surgical gauze over the gap, and lay the removed muscles over the gauze. It’s totally scary, but there isn’t another alternative at this time. So, yeah, it sucks. It really sucks, but I thought I’d let you guys know. On a good note, my anxiety was so bad at the clinic that they couldn’t tap my veins because I was shaking so badly. They put me on Xanax, which seems to help – at least I was able to sleep last night. kili ((((((((((((kili)))))))))))) <these are very gentle hugs, btw You just may be the bravest person I know. I hope I get to meet you some day to tell that to your face. I’ll even waggle my dentures at you so you’ll know it’s me. Thank you for including us in your life. You inspire me to keep on keeping on when things look scary. Deirdre

I’d love to meet you, too. I think what you’re going through is just about as bad as what I am! How we manage with all of our fears, I will never know. kili — The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm

They put me on Xanax, which seems to help – at least I was able to sleep last night. kili

((((((((((((kili)))))))))))) <these are very gentle hugs, btw You just may be the bravest person I know. I hope I get to meet you some day to tell that to your face. I’ll even waggle my dentures at you so you’ll know it’s me. Thank you for including us in your life. You inspire me to keep on keeping on when things look scary.
Hi, Kili, Wow, you’ve been through a lot and I admire your strength. How are you feeling over all of this being done? I hope and pray they get the tumor removed soon so you can start the healing process and put this behind you. ((((((Kili)))))) smiles, Elise

Thanks, Elise. How do I feel over all this being done? Honestly, I’m really upset. I will only have one breast and I can not get a prosthesis. If I could get an implant, I wouldn’t care as much, but implants go under the muscle and rest on the ribcage – I won’t have a ribcage. Secondly, since I will have no ribcage, there will be nothing there to protect my heart and lungs. A blow to my chest can kill me. I’m dreading this, I’m scared, I’ll have a zipper scar from above my *breast* down around to the bottom of where it should be. I will no longer be able to wear a scoop neck shirt, an open neck blouse or a bathing suit without eyes staring at me – not that I go anywhere now, but, you know, what if. I’m really depressed, to put it bluntly. My husband has been so good and says he doesn’t care, but I start crying. I am going to feel hideously disfigured and ugly. I’m experiencing a myriad of emotions; sadness, anger, acceptance, back to anger……. I’m sure it’s all normal to feel this way, I know. Deirdre didn’t want all her crap to happen to her teeth, Sally didn’t want the foot thing, and Gigglz doesn’t want to be in pain. Wow, we’re a sorry lot here, aren’t we!?! LOL kili — The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm

Hi Jackie…The "anorexia-cachexia" cycle is well known in late stage cancer patients. The following article can provide a good overview http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/502423?src=mp An oncologist can prescribe medications that can treat such situations. Sometimes gastro or throat blockages, or brain tumors can also be responsible for the lack of appetite in these situations…Best wishes and good health, Ron

Hi Jackie. Often…they use Periactin (an antihistamine) as an appetite stimulant…and of course…marijuana. Medical or not. My best wishes, Ron B. Chicago

Marriage is intended to be two-shall-become-one experience. When the inevitable non-concurrent death comes, the survivor loses a portion of one’s self…. at least half…. but I believe a preponderance. She may not let go even when he’s interred.
My father avoided food during the last couple of months of Parkinson’s Disease which left him with an intact mind in a non-functioning body. Whether it was a conscious effort on his part to hasten the end or a lack of appetite we don’t know. Either way, his body shut down and he died. My poor mom tried desparately to spoon feed him but he would turn his head away (the only part of his body he could move) or block his mouth with his tongue. It was so sad to watch my mother pleading "You’ve got to eat" while I’m thinking "Why? Let the man go." These are very tough times for your BIL and his wife plus other family members as well. The important thing is that he be made as comfortable as possible and that nobody be left with guilt for not having "done enough." The best to you all.
Michael, Jalisco is a state in Mexico. It’s where my dad grew up. I still have some family over there, but they might not remember me very much. There are more Mexican restaurants in California than there are in Florida. Daniel Urtiz

Question:

What you haven’t addressed (remained silent on) is that people who are hiv + are at risk of losing their employment, their medical coverage, their housing, their right to travel to foreign countries, their family, and a host of other loses without even being homosexual – and that would make it worse.

I have also not addressed the possibility of a giant asteroid striking this planet and destroying most, if not all, human life. Pardon me–being only one person with a limited budget, one finds oneself only able to require that a person wanting to have sex with me, must accompany me to an STD clinic and get tested for a broad spectrum of those types of diseases. My intention is then to not have sex with that person unless the diseases they may have are cured. HIV is the breaking point. Please note that I will not require that person to be carted off to a concentration camp or killed. Also, I won’t be going on national news to announce their HIV status. I will be suggesting that they avoid any behavior that may pass their infection on to others. What you or anyone has failed to propose or outline is what the government or society will do to ensure that those that are confimed as hiv + in global testing will treated or assisted medically, emotionally, financially in this disease epidemic.

My budget is limited and so the programs I might actually propose would be a joke. I’ll leave that to those people and institutions with money enough to accomplish those sorts of things. Also, I will attempt to keep myself HIV (and other STDs) free so as not to be a burden on society. That’s about all I can really do–but I CAN do that! Until that is clear, it would appear silence will prevail.

Trust that I will not be silent–as I’ve not been on this issue and what individuals can do on this issue. Lastly, you also appreciate, that if one doesn’t have a clue as to their HIV status, they are not at risk of jail or prosecution, but those that do know they are hiv + are at risk of jail or prosecution.

I don’t have a problem with sending people to jail who know their HIV status–yet continue to endanger others. You have not stated one single benefit that anyone in society has to tell someone they are hiv +.

Ok. Telling me they are HIV positive is a way of making sure I will remain HIV negative. I’ll not have any kind of sexual contact with someone who is HIV+. That way at least one person will not become infected–and the consequent health benefits from having one less HIV+ individual will accrue to society. However, you reinforced the belief that the only hope for survival is to wear a condom, and even those fail – sometimes.

Condoms can make a difference–they reduce the possibility of a person becoming HIV+ after having sex with another HIV+ person. My resolution is to not have sexual contact with an HIV person under any circumstances. I’ll not be deciding to have sex with a condom. That means there won’t be any chance of a condom failure. Collaborative WebLog The strategy.
…compare that right with the rights of an uninfected person, for example the rights of a baby or the rights of another sex partner of somebody not even knowing they got infected and then sexually transmitted infections are passed on along again and again making diseases epidemic.

Your points are well taken. Yes, mothers each day produce aids infected babies, people have sex with people whom don’t know they are infected with aids and then make this a disease epidemic. What you haven’t addressed (remained silent on) is that people who are hiv + are at risk of losing their employment, their medical coverage, their housing, their right to travel to foreign countries, their family, and a host of other loses without even being homosexual – and that would make it worse. What you or anyone has failed to propose or outline is what the government or society will do to ensure that those that are confimed as hiv + in global testing will treated or assisted medically, emotionally, financially in this disease epidemic. Until that is clear, it would appear silence will prevail.
Actually I’ve been wishing that blind tests (of whichever or preferably all of the bogus tests) would be done in all patients in a hospital, for example in South Africa where it might be allowed, or as a privately funded study. I think this could be a major disaster for Aids Inc since I expect a huge number of sick people would turn up HIV+, eg many cancer patients. Of course there is a privacy issue in having universal testing which you are perhaps indifferent to, but a large anonymous survey of hospital patients would not have that ethical problem. Yet I’m sure it would be "politically incorrect" and I doubt has ever been done, due to the damage (I expect) it would do the Aids establishment.

Well in that most industrialized nations of the world test all new members of there military for AID’s, and several European studies have done widespread testing, and all donated blood in all most the entire world is tested you would be wrong in your stated assumptions above.

Question:

The Dark Side of PETA To most people the group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) seems harmless enough. After all, who could be against treating animals ethically? Besides, any group that relies on pictures of nude celebrities and nude demonstrators can’t be that dangerous, right? If PETA were to have their way, Huntington’s Disease research would be set back decades. In fact, PETA calls HDSA (Huntington’s Disease Society of America) a "Cruel Charity" and asks that people not give them money. Think about that for a moment?PETA is trying to prevent people from donating money to the most prominent voice we have in the HD community. HDSA is a small charity, less than half the size of PETA, that is trying to stop the deaths of thousands of people with Huntington’s Disease and provide support to families dealing with this horrible disease. PETA doesn’t want HDSA to have any money. What does PETA have against Huntington’s Disease research? Because Huntington’s Disease research requires animal testing and PETA is against all animal testing. Their website falsely states: "Such experiments have no practical benefit to anyone." They quote a single doctor who says: " meaningful scientific conclusions cannot be drawn about one species by studying another?" The doctor they quote saying this isn’t some objective researcher, he’s a vegetarian doctor who writes diet books and is the president of the innocent-sounding "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine" (PCRM). According to ConsumerFreedom.com, the doctor has been involved in activist activities with a man who is a member of the violent animal-rights terrorist group "SHAC" and was once the spokesman for another animal-rights terrorist group "Animal Liberation Front" (ALF). The PCRM is an anti-meat, anti-animal research, and against the use of animals in training doctors. PETA has funneled over $400,000 to the PCRM and according to ActivistCash.com they share offices and staff. The American Medical Association (AMA) says this about the PCRM: "?finds the recommendations of PCRM irresponsible and potentially dangerous to the health and welfare of Americans" and that the AMA "continues to marvel at how effectively a fringe organization of questionable repute continues to hoodwink the media with a series of questionable research that fails to enhance public health."

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I agree that PETA is an evil organization in many ways, but I have one issue with your article. What methods are used in that research to protect the animals being used from unecessary pain and suffering? I don’t think the onus is on HLS to explain why they shouldn’t be terrorized by PETA, ALF, et al, but their website is linked below. Thanks to the stirling work of groups like PETA and many right minded people, their days are numbered. Few English companies will supply them because they do not wish to be associated with their vile crimes against animals. One interesting point on their liesheet they call a website is the page devoted to "Average % of different species" bargraph Rats, mice and other rodents – shown in blue Sheep, cows, pigs and other large animals – also shown in blue. They also have 6 categories, only four are shown on the graph. I also like the piece about the commitment of HLS to ‘In-Vitro’ research. I received a similar answer from Dr. John (butchers boy) Mercer, he stated that much of his work involved ‘Cell Culture’. Load of bollocks. Also note that they do not employ vivisectionists, they are scientists. They are murdering scumbags of the lowest order. Like all the other bottom of the tank feeders HLS state that they test and perfect drugs for the benefit of mankind. These drugs are marketed at extortionate prices outside the price range of the average consumer. The price of drug companies products are directly responsible for the shortcomings of our own NHS. They torture animals and cheat humans.
"This places an important burden of responsibility upon us one, which we do not take lightly. We have to respect the needs of the animals and be fully aware of the welfare issues involved. We are committed to providing the highest levels of animal husbandry and welfare." How do they accomplish that? "Huntingdon Life Sciences is certified to work with animals in accordance with the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (UK) and the US Dept. of Agriculture (USA). In compliance with this legislation it is our policy to use the minimum number of animals and to obtain the optimum amount of relevant data." How do they make sure they meet those criteria? I looked at other sections of the site too. It’s all very vague. -Rubystars

I thought you said Bradford was. <… Like all the other bottom of the tank feeders HLS state that they test and perfect drugs for the benefit of mankind.

That’s what they do. These drugs are marketed

You mean sold. at extortionate

Why do you insinuate any extortion in the equation? prices outside the price range of the average consumer.

Pharmaceutical companies aren’t charities, Ray. The costs associated with research and development have to be paid. So do the costs of all the testing involved before a script can be written for a new drug. If you think NHS is already a boondoggle (and you must since you’ve been wise enough to get on a private scheme), just imagine how much more it would cost to spread the R&D around to all citizens and the research performed by only one agency. Take away the competition between drug companies, and you’d have fewer advances in medicine at a higher price to taxpayers. Get the government out of the whole funding scheme and allow the market for medical care and drugs to restore some sense of equilibrium. The price of drug companies products are directly responsible for the shortcomings of our own NHS.

No, the inefficiencies of government are responsible for NHS’ failure to live up to the goal of providing every Briton with affordable and sufficient care; socialism wasn’t the answer, it was worse than the original problem. There’s no market incentive to keep costs down, only political pressures. Those political pressures also ensure that "sufficient" care remains restrictive, so rationing is a norm in the system. The goal of universal care is laudable, it’s how you seek to accomplish it that determines its long-term viability and success. They torture animals and cheat humans.

Neither. They test on animals before administering to humans. They also have a right to profit from their work — just as you do from yours. Little wonder most of their website is devoted to the defense of their vile trade.

I have no idea how good or otherwise this product is, but I would point out that in order to patent something you don’t have to prove that it works. You only have to prove that it is an original idea. There are plenty of patents around for things that don’t work or are even downright dangerous. Patent is only evidence of originality and a basis for protecting manufacturing rights, nothing else. Tim Jackson

Spend some time and a few dollars and phone any one of the Doctors who prescribe this drug qualified natural product to their patients. Look up the mulititude of Canadian and US Medical Doctors who travel and lecture about this product. Visit Doctor Bounous in Montreal and ask him how it works in a scientific, pathological way. Career Investigator of the Medical Research Council and recipient of the 1965 medal of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Gustavo Bounous initiated a novel research program to search for a dietary protein source that would boost the immune system. In conjunction with a colleague from the McGill University Faculty of Medicine (Patricia A.L. Kongshavn, Ph.D) http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.lehms9… e%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DN, his studies led to the discovery of an undenatured serum milk concentrate that sustains normal glutathione levels and promoted immuneoenhancing and anticarcinogenic activity. Considered to be the father of whey protein research, Gustavo Bounous, M.D. is Immunotec’s Director of Research and Development. Phone Doctor Jimmy Gutman…..come listen to him lecture in Toronto this month Walk with him during his rounds at Montreal General hospital as he teaches other doctors about this product. Canadian doctors don’t benefit financially in a public health care system as US doctors do. Negativity is one thing. Ignoring facts is sad.

A Cancer story that needs to be told.

There is a story that surely needs to be told. We’re mortal; of all the creatures, we’re distinguished by knowing this. Many of us will be diagnosed with cancer; the disease will kill some quickly, some slowly, some not at all, their end coming from other means. Medical science struggles to make advances in the ability to deal with this awful disease, and advances are and continue to be made. But there comes a time for some when the inevitable must be recognised, peace made, palliative action taken. Around the fringes of the battle lurk the wolves of false hope. I’ve seen them in action; probably many of you have. Mysterious potions and procedures are offered for a price, promises, unsupported by the normal rules of evidence, held out, the decency of a peaceful reconciliation with the inevitability of the end is denied. Beware this course, I urge you. Tragedy is magnified along this road.

Response:

A Cancer story that needs to be told. It started in November 2002. Betty Murray phoned Karen O’Handley. She had heard about Karen’s 20 year old son, Brian Carmichael, had been diagnosed with cancer in May of 2002 and that Karen had been actively searching for a natural yet effective way to repair her son’s damaged immune system. Betty knew that Immunocal / HMS-90 could help protect him from the damaging side effects of chemo and radiation, so despite not knowing Karen, she picked up the phone and made the call. As Karen puts it "I’m glad I had the sense to listen to her!" Brian’s rare and aggressive cancer (Ewing’s Sarcoma/PNET) was considered stage 1V at the time of diagnosis in May 2002. The primary tumor was in his right shoulder blade with growths under his right arm, in his sternum, over his heart and in both of his lungs. The medical community could only offer mega doses of chemo because the spread of the cancer made it inoperable and ruled out radiation. Brian’s CAT scan (Aug.2002) showed that the cancer had eaten away at his sternum bone and his heart was swollen with a very visible growth over it, projecting out to the side. Both lungs had multiple metastases in them. Because this cancer grew so rapidly, by the time Brian started chemo (Feb.2003), the massive growth under his right arm was so large he could not put his arm down by his side and he had to walk around with his elbow extended in the air and his hand near his chest. During the next 8 months Brian took 4 packages of Immunocal / HMS-90 per day. He started on the road to recovery from cancer. His most recent CAT scan showed that his sternum bone had no sign of cancer in or around it, had filled in and was smooth. Brian’s heart had returned to a normal appearance and the growth over it is gone. The metastases in the lungs were so small they were difficult to tell what they were. The mass under his arm totally flattened and his upper body had regained it’s normal appearance. Brian’s oncologist was so impressed how quickly Brian’s body had responded to the chemo, that he is telling his colleagues and other patients about Immunocal / HMS-90. Karen said " I don’t think I could ever adequately express how grateful I am to Doctor Bounous for discovering Immunocal / HMS-90." Update Feb 2004. Continues… "Brian was first diagnosed with stage 1V cancer in May 2002 and has been on 4 packs of Immunocal / Hms-90 daily since December 2002. We visited a surgeon in November 2003 after Brian’s most recent CT scan to get the results and consider what to do next. The CT report gave us very good news.. Brian is no longer stage 1V because the cancer is gone in his lungs, over his heart and in his sternum. Additionally ALL his organs read normal on the scan, including his lymph glands; plus the damaged sternum bone has healed. That was exactly what I was hoping Immunocal / HMS-90 would do – protect his organs and his blood supply from the chemo and radiation treatments while helping to reduce the spread of the cancer. The primary tumor in Brian’s shoulder blade was smaller, so he’ll be having an MRI and a bone scan done in order to determine the exact size and dimensions of what is left. We’ll then receive at least two options from two surgeons about what to do with the remains of the tumor in the bone. Brian will stay on 4 packs of Immunocal / HMS-90 daily and maybe, just maybe the remains of the tumor will continue to shrink. He’s feeling and looking great, plus he’s working 30 hours per week. Brian will be on Immunocal / HMS-90 for the rest of his life, as far as I’m concerned! We are so grateful for this beautiful white powder..thank you Doctor Bounous!" ……. Update April 2004. " In December, Brian had a whole-body bone scan and an MRI. When we went for the results, we expected to hear that at the very least as operation on his shoulder blade would be necessary. Worst case scenario would be removal of the entire shoulder blade to get all the cancer. Instead we were told that the cancer is completely gone in his shoulder blade, and that the bone scan is "clear and clean". Can you believe it? There is no cancer in any of his bones! In January, when the surgeon couldn’t physically locate any trace of the cancer under Brian’s arm, he sent him for a biopsy, the results of which were confirmed by the Director of Anatomic pathology at Emory University in Atlanta. It’s official.both pathology labs confirmed it…MY SON IS CANCER FREE..isn’t that incredible? No malignancy can be found anywhere. The biopsy is clear and the bone scan is clear. Additionally, the MRI and CT scans show no trace of cancer and no damage to any of his organs or lymph glands. Please share this wonderful news with other s (including your doctors), and let everyone know about the marvelous things Immunocal / HMS-90 does to help a person’s immune system stay strong! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, to everyone that has been so supportive of us!" Karen O’Handley. March 16, 2004 An Exciting Medical Discovery For The Immune System Helps Celine’s Husband … Rene Angelil. QUEBEC–(BW HealthWire)–Nov. 15, 1999–Celine Dion can now sing forth `my heart will go on’ with new meaning. Eight months ago her husband Rene Angelil was diagnosed with melanoma and that cast a shadow not only over her career, but over her life. She has subsequently taken a hiatus from touring and recording, to concentrate on more important matters. Now, thanks to some important breakthrough research out of Montreal, Canada, it was recently reported in Le Journal de Montreal that Rene has been making good progress. He has made use of an important innovation discovered by the eminent research scientist Dr. Gustavo Bounous. The Dion family has close ties to the Doctors. Last March, Therese Dion, Celine Dion’s mother, met with Dr. Bounous and Dr. Lands and others to discuss their work and became fascinated by the new approaches to health and disease management. "I don’t believe in coincidences," Mrs. Dion told us this week. "It all happened at the time that I learned that Rene had cancer. I called Celine to tell her about Immunocal. Rene’s doctor, who had contacted Dr. Bounous himself, saw no reason why Rene couldn’t take this supplement." It is now past six months that Rene has been adding Immunocal to his daily regimen, with surprising efficacy. Dr. Bounous points out that "the discovery that specific whey proteins slow carcinogenesis (the process of cancer formation) and tumor growth itself have been confirmed by researchers in Australia, the US and Europe. Studies on Immunocal will be presented next May at an international conference in New York organized by the Mount Sinai Hospital. They will deal specifically with the manipulation of cellular Glutathione in the treatment of cancer and AIDS. Saku Koivu returned to play hockey as the captain of the Montreal Canadian’s team. He is taking 4 packs of Immunocal / HMS-90 per day. It seems impossible that almost exactly seven months ago, Koivu had stood just a few feet away from where he stood Tuesday night. His head was clean shaven then, his hair the most visible victim of the chemotherapy treatments he had just begun to battle the non-Hodgkins lymphoma that had been discovered in his abdomen. http://espn.go.com/nhl/news/2002/0409/1365906.html A natural product with medical patents for cancer, AIDS and the immune system is very unique.
You may recall I was writing to Abram Hoffer about the study Linus Pauling did on his patients treated with vitamin C and other vitamins. It claimed the treated patients lived 21 times longer than untreated. I challenged Pauling’s statistical methods, and wanted reassurance that the cancer patients were all equally "in an advanced stage", as Pauling claimed. Hoffer did reply at length. He did not, however, offer to supply any further information about the subjects. He is basically standing by Pauling’s work. He has recently published a further book on Vitamin C and cancer which presumably still makes such claims. He has also not responded to a more pressing second request for the data. He says his "charts were very complete and contained data from the cancer clinic, from the referring physicians and from my own follow up notes". Also: "In my more recent book Vitamin C and Cancer, Quarry Press I re examined the patients he had used in his calculations and it turns out that his predictions were very close to the actual outcome.," The data, then, is available, but he will not release it. I think we are entitled to draw our own conclusions. The correspondence is lengthy. I will eventually put it on a web site, but anyone who wishes to see it can email me privately.
So you claim massive doses of vitamin C cures cancer? When was this discovered? Can you elaborate? — Kim Please note, I don’t wish to get involved in any personal conflicts between the posters here. I’m simply looking for answers.

Also something that remarkable would have a Medline abstract for the case study. A check at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/ using the seach terms "megadose vitamin tumor or tumour" pulled up one page of results, none of them related to the previous anecdote. …

Thank you. I do remember when everyone was mega-dosing with Vitamin C in the belief it prevented colds and shortened the time it took to recover from a cold. That seems to have fallen by the wayside along with magnetized bracelets and magnetic mattresses. Both popular in my area some years ago. — Kim Please note, I don’t wish to get involved in any personal conflicts between the posters here. I’m simply looking for answers.
