When rescued he was going bald from a terrible skin condition (mites if IIRC) and other health problems from the neglect. Well, recently he develped an abcess, which responded to treatment, but also has some ear problem which hasn’t responded to medication. Purrs for Crackles. My Shadow had very recurring problems with his ears, and he’d scratch and scratch at them, had polyps that had to be removed a couple of times. He had gunk that would ooze out and I was constantly wiping his ears out. No mites, no infection unless he scratched at them too much, and he’d had drops I had to put in often. I keep saying this, and I think people are skeptic because it is probably unusual, but on a suggestion I started giving him B complex daily and his ears cleared up. I haven’t had to have him to the vet for cleaning, infections, anything (ear-related) in a year now. Good luck and God Bless RPCA for helping you and Crackles. Angels, I swear. — Cheryl

The assistant looked amazed, I told her Crackles is world reknown(hehe). That generally matches what would be done in humans. Baytril is a fluoroquinolone used in veterinary medicine only. Clavamox is a combination that has a comparable coverage to a cephalosporin. Tresaderm is for skin-deep things only, as are synotic drops. Both are anti-inflammatory and tresaderm also has an antibiotic. If they still are getting bacteria in the ear, a culture and sensitivity really makes sense. They’ve tried the obvious classes of antibiotics, and it’s time to pin down what will hit the particular bacteria. Getting a culture and sensitivity, and then using an antibiotic known to work, both will make him comfortable faster as well as save money on antibiotics that don’t work. It’s not out of the question to use more than one antibiotic concurrently, if, as it well might be, it’s multidrug resistant staphylococci. I called the vet to see how close we are to being able to get him looked cause his ear is starting to produce pus again. She said we are up to $80(this doesn’t include anything mailed cause of course the mail hasn’t reached her yet). She said to come get more antibiotics to clear up the infecion again(poor crackles has been on one or another antibiotics for a month now). The office is closed on monday for the holiday, I forgot to ask if they were open on saturday. So anybody calls this weekend or monday they might not be open. I need to go pick up the antibiotics as soon as I get done typing this, I’ll find out about saturday and tell ya’ll. I want to thank everyone for helping crackles out, he is such a trooper. I have pictures in a yahoo album, I’ll post the link in my next post when I get back from the vets later today. I just can’t express enough thanks for helping crackles. Big hugs to everyone.

Done. As I understand it, Crackle’s meowmie used to post to the group here via webTV, and hasn’t figured out which software to use now that she’s switched to a Mac. I imagine she’ll be making an appearance here before too long, though, as she just asked for help in Yahoo. She’s already had one response, and I’m sure the Mac users will soon guide her through getting back to newsgroups. I just called Crackles’ vet and they knew exactly who to apply the money to. I’m glad to have helped out a little, I hope he is fine and can get this problem fixed.
