Essiac Opinions

Question:

yes…. my wifes oncologist told us that anything that makes the liver work harder, cleanse etc, during chemo could be dangerous.  she said no wheatgrass, l-lysine , vit A etc, during treatment.  i guess the rational is that your system is having a hard enough time excreting the chemo drugs themselves and the suddenly large amount of dead cells, without additional tress that way.  makes sense to me, in the same way that an old mechanics trick was to pour a little gasoline into a cars engine oil, then run the engine a bit to clean out the gunk.  it works, but its very dangerous to run the engine that way for more than a limited time.   lovely stuff, that chemo.

Probably a good reason to avoid alcohol during chemo treatment also. As a student nurse, I did a rotation on a cancer floor where some very radical chemo was done (it was the only hospital in Phila. that would allow this doc to do his thing).  Very interesting stuff.  His patients were people told "go home to die" after treatments of the more standard variety had failed.  Did he succeed all the time??  Hell no, but to those who lived after being pronounced "dead men walking" by everyone else, he was BETTER than sliced bread. Well actually it could.  There have been many claims by people that it really works, especially with tumors but I have never used it. I did taste it once and was not too great tasting. So you’ve never tried it beyond tasting it, but you claim that it "can’t hurt to try it". — Sherilyn

Hello All, My mother has unforunately been diagnosed with having terminal cancer in her adrenal glands. She has heard that there is an herbal remedy called Essiac which has had some success in treating forms of cancer, and I would like to hear from any of you who have any information about this natural alternative to drugs. Thanks Tony

I’m sorry to hear about your mother.  I wish that Essiac were helpful for cancer, but it is a hoax.

There is some evidence that it can be helpful.  I have know personal knowledge of it.  I do know, however, that it is important to the get the Genuine product.  The real product is made in Canada and has a picture of a lady on the front of it.  The other essiac teas may or may not have the exact same ingredients in the same proportions.  The one that is made in Canada is commissioned by the family that invented it and is the real thing. I found out about all this online, so there must be websites out there that you can research.  Good luck.  Hope your mom gets better. the girl of many names

The coroner in Ontario sure gave them a hard time over essiac, the "cancer cure". It’s a tea made from rhubarb root, slippery elm, burdoch and sheep sorrel. You can still get it online. Dunno if it works. All its inventors are dead. "Made from ancient Ojibwa formula based on Native spirituality" (As if native Canadians have some special knowledge of spirituality the rest of us can’t understand) bwahahah…

Best to do your own research on  ssiac or anything mentioned here, go to any search engine,  google.com has may  articles on  it. You should also know, the group of debunkers here will put down anything alternaive, regardless.. Make fun and nasty comments. That is the norm here. Good Luck. Jan

Response:

yep, that is the norm.. if ya come here like i did, for some info and to ask questons, ya got to weed thru a lot of junk to find the gems of info hidden behind some folks rantings and ravings, both pro and con alt stuff….definitely do your own research, make up your own mind, and dont be influenced too much by strongly worded, articulated opinions one way or the other.  one thing for sure…. no matter what you ask here,  someone here will know something about it. mark-h–"noone has called me any names here yet!"
