Melanoma that starts in Lymph nodes, info requested.

Question:

Hi all, My dad was diagnosed non hodgekins disease three years ago. After 8 chemotherapies it was gone. However this year another form of cancer has returned. The docters have diagnosed it as a melanoma. They also thought this was "very strange" because a melanoma usually doesn’t start in the lymph nodes. Because it looks a lot like the cancer my dad had three years ago, they have given him a another chemotherapy to see if it works but it didn’t. The cancer even increased a little. My dad will now undergo a light melanoma chemo therapy to see if that helps. Does anybody have information about a melanoma that starts in lymph nodes. It didn’t spread out from a skin melanoma and then infected the lymph nodes but it primarily manifested itself in the lymph nodes. Anyone has heard of a case like my dad’s and what kind of treatment did they get? Bye

Response:

How do you know the primary was in the lymph nodes.  Primary melanoma can regress, removing the mole from the skin surface, which would make it very difficult to determine the true point of origin. For more information try www.mpip.org (Melanoma Patients Information Page) I wish you well.
