Head and neck radiation

Categories: Cancer Chemotherapy

Question:

In August of last year, I was diagnosed with throat cancer — a tumor on my epiglottis.  My doc discussed three treatments with me: surgery; chemotherapy; and, radiation.  Or a combination of them.  He thought, and I avidly wanted to agree, that radiation alone would do the trick. Starting in mid-October, I received radiation treatment five days a week for seven weeks.  My last day "under the gun" was Dec. 1.   If you’ve had a similar experience in the last year, or are undergoing one now, I’d love to talk to you about what happened, how you’re feeling, how you’re recovering, etc.  Comparing problems, if you will.  I’ve found more than a few. I’ll be right back to you.  Let’s see what we have in common.                                                Rick Panger

I had throat surgery in September and radiation for 10 weeks ending in mid-January. I lost most of my saliva capability, still have burns healing and have yet to fully recover my energy. I still have a cancerous Thyroid which will be removed March 7th.

Hi Rick, I was diagnosed a year gone xmas with throat cancer,(tumor on my vocal chord). I had 20 sessions of radiotherapy over a period of 4 weeks, had a check up about a month after that and thankfully the tumor had shrunk, and now have regular checkups on a two month basis.  The physical problems I have are a lack of saliva due to damaged saliva glands and problems with my voice, but apart from that I’ve been fine since. Wishing you well for the future Rick, and if I can be of any help please email me. —
