Nirvana's Bleach review wanted
Question:
O God!!!! You MUST buy it. It makes "Nevermind" look like a piece of processed over-produced shit. I love "Bleach". The music is more raw and WAY more angry. It is more of a punk album than any of their other stuff. "Nevermind" is so clean and packaged, but "Bleach" is nasty and uncompromising and relentless. Their best by far, and an essential punk album. Hi, Because there will be no new Nirvana CD’s I was sort of thinking of buying Bleach. Can anyone out there give me an opinion on this CD. How does it compare to Nevermind.
Bleach is, on the whole, a much less "produced" CD than Nevermind. Not to imply that Nevermind is overproduced, but Bleach is even less so. A lot of the songs are purposely discordant and rough around the edges. More distortion and feedback than Nevermind. I like several of the songs on the CD but in my opinion, the lyrics are not as insightful or descriptive as Nevermind and certainly not In Utero. Overall summary: good, rough, loud, early grunge. —

Nirvana never was able to make an album that matched the sheer power, energy, and heart-stopping intensity of their debut album–not Nevermind, and certainly not In Utero. Unlike both of these albums (and Incesticide), Bleach contains no album filler. There is not a single song on that album that I don’t like. First and foremost (IMHO), though, are "Blew", "About a Girl", "School", "Swap Meet", and "Big Cheese." Five great songs right there–not bad for an album with only 13 tracks. I would definitely recommend picking up Bleach, especially if you like some of the darker, edgier sides to Nirvana. The tracks that have Dale Crover on drums (Floyd the Barber and Paper Cuts) sound like Melvins outtakes circa "Gluey Porch Treatments", due primarily to Crover’s style and Krist Novoselic’s dron- ing bass (kinda uninspired IMHO) play on these tracks. Gems on this album are "Blew", "About A Girl", "School", "Negative Creep", and "Swap Meet." Others that deserve mention are "Love Buzz" and "Sifting." That’s half the album right there, and the others aren’t too far behind. —DMAN
