ACS calls

Categories: Cancer Center

Question:

I’m already done wasting your time and mine.

Did I miss something somewhere?  She asked about getting calls form the ACS and now she’s all defensive. Am I just dense? …lisa (confused)

Response:

she had also written about the great medical/pharmaceutical "conspiracy" to prevent patients from getting well so they could make more $, and I had suggested she devote her efforts to finding a suitable treatment for herself instead of a one-woman conspiracy sniffer-outter crusade.  apparenltys, someone wrote to her via email and said something about "dont’ banter with crosem" whatever that means.  she also wrote to me privately, but it was the same message she psoted, and I wrote back about teh same info. so, there you have it…

Response:

Thanks.  I must have misread her post (although I tend to tune out when I start feeling that the old "conspiracy" theory is surfacing – kind of like ignoring screaming children). …lisa

Response:

I’m not offended at all.  Do just as you wish.

| Please accept this opinion of mine with the idea that I am trying to help | you, not criticize you…but I wonder if you are directing energy at | topics | such as the great AMA/ACS/medical establishment conspiracy that might be | more productively employed considering your treatment.  You, at this time, | do not have the "luxury" of re-organziing medical care in the USA…just | look out for yourself to get the suitable treatment for your condition. | The standard treatments are the standards because they show the best | results… | If you don’t wish to have anything to do with the ACS, tell them so.  I | didn’t have any visitor or phone call from them, altho they say they did | visit me, I must have been half asleep or something, since I recall it | not! | | I’m curious, how does ACS select their survivors who call patients?  I | was | | referred | | to them by my surgeon/hospital after surgery.  ACS rep called me. | Referral | | was on my release form. I didn’t have any visitor or phone call from them, altho they say they did visit me,

Two wonderful old ladies from the ACS visited me in the hospital the day after my mastectomy.  They offered services, which I really didn’t need, and gave me a soft temporary prosthesis, which I gladly took. I thought the visit was very nice. …lisa

This may vary locally.  IIRC, around here, people volunteer and are trained to do this, and someone (the cancer center?) tries to pick from the volunteer list someone who’s semi-similar to the patient in age, etc. Ann T.
